When playing Red Alert 3, it seems that the screen brightness is flickering, it dims itself automatically then brightens up again, it's like flashing back and forth. I'm sure this is the brightness because I can see the brightness logo appearing in the upper left of the screen. Why is this happening? I'm getting laggy performance when the screen is adjusted automatically. This happens after about 5 mins. of gameplay.

I've got almost the same problem with my M740TU. If I lower the brightness with the FN+F8 key combo, on a certain level (about 50%) the screen starts flickering. Like the refreshrate suddenly dropped to 20hz. It get worse if I lower it some more. And the brightness doesn't even change very much.

Ok, now, even with 3dmarks06, when I ran some tests, I can see that the computer automatically adjusts its brightness since the "brightness dialog box" in the upper left hand corner of the screen flashes. What's the problem?

It seems that the problem occurs when the graphics card is intensively used by any application. Any ideas?

bump! please help me, i'm at the stage of being paranoid about the VC again. I don't want to think that the VC is the problem on this matter.

best thing is contact you OEM reseller where you bought the computer from as they might have a better idea.

I just watched the video you posted up. It looks like your computer is switching brightness from high to power saver as though you were unplugging the laptop from AC power every time. Take a look at the power cord and make sure its in there properly.

If it is, it could be your power brick that needs replacing.

the power cord is tacked in properly. So it isn't the VC having the problem?

I saw the video as well.

very confident that its not the videocard.

it might be software... the only way to test if its software or not is if you install a different clean OS on the notebook (like XP) and see if it still occurs.

although, I would have to agree with the others' posts....

it might be hardware... having to do the with the power brick/cord or even the power port of the motherboard.

contact your vendor and show them this video... they should see what is going on.

    @Gophn

I just found out that my power brick is a delta electronics which has an output rating of 19V @ 4.74A, are you using the same PSU?

And what are the clock speeds of your GPU when testing with GPU-Z?

and i've already turned off powermizer when running on AC using the powermizer switch i'e downloaded somewhere in the forums. google also gave me something about the VRAM bug, which says that any intensive GPU processes, like with games and 3dmarks tests, will run smoothly for a while (for like up to 40fps or more) and then suddenly dropped to 1-2 fps for about a second then go back againg to being smooth. this is exactly what i'm experiencing. any ideas?

ok, i tried the suggestion of Gophn:

    "
Here is a way to test:
    - remove the battery
    - then use the notebook normally and do benchmarks.
    - if the system turns off, then its definitely a hardware power issue.
    - if the system remains on.... then it could be something else.
    "

I did that, and the system turned off, what could be the problem? that's weird, while the benchmark was about to test, it suddenly shuts down, which means that the system is turning into battery power when being benchmarked?

Sounds like you're hitting the limit of your 90W PSU and your comp is looking for alternate power. Call PCMW and get them to send you the correct PSU.
