I decided I want a gaming laptop and I was thinking if the M860TU is still worth it.
I can only get the M860TU with a GTS card instead of a GT card (I ordered one only to find out GT isn't available anymore.)
I just don't like the feeling of paying the same money for less performance (Although it isn't that much of a difference)
If I order now I have to wait till early October (receive 6 october, ship around 9-12) to get it. Maybe I should wait on new gaming-laptops, also when are new gaming-laptops available? (Doesn't have to be Clevo/Sager.)
-
Yes its still worth it.
The GTS is only 1% slower than the GT and right now it performance at about 1-2 FPS slower.
However, if you are unsure about purchasing it, you can wait on the competition to bring out their laptops, but I can almost guarantee you that you won't find another 15.4" laptop with a 9800m GTS. Highest you'll probably get is a 9700m GTS. -
M860TU it is just started shipping from 20 days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
GTS from what I saw on a recent topic performs quite well and pretty much comparable in terms of fps in games with the GT. Plus you save some money. I should be getting mine with a GTS in a couple of days hopefully so if you want I can do some tests.
On another note, I'm pretty sure if you insist and ask around you can still find resellers that offer the GT, I don't think they already took it out from all the resellers.
Anyway, in my book the GT was not worth getting since it costs too much for too little so I guess it depends from what angle you want to look at the problem. -
julian
I have the gts and it performs identically to the GT, I did the exact tests that chaz did when he benchmarked the GT and got identical results by using the same drivers.
also last night played games for hours and without a cooler and max temp on gpu was 80.... and within 10 minutes they went down to 46 - idle temp -

Perhaps the reason they have stopped selling the 9800M GT's is that they have run out of stock of old 8800M GTX's...Maybe they never made a 9800M GT...Were they all reflashed 8800's..?
-
I have gone over this many times....
those that have tried it has bricked (ruined) their 8800M GTX's.
the 9800M GT may have same specs as the 8800M GTX, but there are minor subtle differences... like the power specifications are higher in the 9800M GT. -
Also, the 9800m GT has the benefits of the Geforce 9 series of video cards, including the second generation of the HD processing capability and greater CUDA and PhysiX performance.
-
It IS possible to flash the 8800GTX to 9800GT, I have a vbios that does it...Provided by eurocom
-
If you don't buy something on time, something new is out and you keep on waiting forever.
-
So have you flashed your card to the 9800m GT?
-
-
They ask for more cash for the GTS. That's bullcrap. See if you can find another reseller. I'd only go with them if their warranty is great. They should not be charging you more for the GTS.
-
But it doesn count for fact unless he has done the upgrade himself, had his card identified as a 9800m GT and has not bricked his GPU. -
First they had: P9500, 320GB 7200RPM, GT for 1620,-
Now: P9500, 320GB 7200RPM, GTS for 1640,-
Other dutch site: P9500, 320GB 7200RPM, GT for 1650,-
Now: P9500, 320GB, 7200RPM, GTS for 1670,-
German site has: P9500, 320GB, 5400RPM, GTS for around 1474 include shipping. I hope they have an english keyboard but even if they do have it then it's still a 6 hour drive from my house. -
-
They told me the GT is sold out or something. They will only ship with GTS now, and the GTS is priced higher because they are on demand.
-
they stopped making GT
-
Dell xps didn't update their systems by cenrino2!!
hp till now don't have DDR3 in their systems!!!only sony and gateway have. -
I have flashed my card, it did get recognised as a 9800GT, but it seemed to break dualview, so I flashed back

I believe they still have the 9800M GT for sale, but I am not sure if they ship overseas.
You could always E-mail and ask.
I do know the 9800 GTS is cheaper there. -
I'm not going to buy it from America, way too far for shipping etc.
I don't mind getting the GTS but I just hate the fact that I have to pay more for a GTS card. -
Paying more for a less powerful card,I don't know man.....How much would shipping be? I don't think it would be cheap, but you never know.
-
-
-
So is this switch to the 9800GTS going to occur across the sea in America eventually too?
-
Yeah I think so.
-
I wonder who is saying the truth and if you are why you didnt said anyth when Eurocom was saying b/s to us? -
Here is what I have been told by people that have bricked their 8800M GTX's.
- they got the VBIOS dumped from a 9800M GT (first models out with them) that another person gave them.
- then when they did the flash and restarted, the videocard was bricked.
My speculation on the recent OEM's VBIOS flash (to go from 8800M GTX to 9800M GT) may actually be a re-brand flash with no difference in the hardware... only software.
.... meaning that the OEM flash maybe nothing more than a software mod to rename the card.
I would like to confirm this by:
- having those with the first 9800M GT owners dump their VBIOS and compare it with the OEM flashes (like from Eurocom).
- having physical high-detailed pics of the 8800M GTX and 9800M GT cards. -
M860TU still worth it?
