Would anybody speculate on the price of the new m860tu with Montevenia? I mean, if we're gonna have to pay 2500+ for the laptop w/montevenia then will it still be worth it?

You can get the m15x for 2k flat with the 8800gtx card. Yeah it's not future proof but price is a problem for many people, myself included.

I just hope they're not gonna ask for an arm and a leg (in my opinion) for the m860tu w/montevania.

If they do...I can just get a aliewnare with 8800gtx for 1700 right now...

Waiting is difficult, but not bad if price is right...

SO, what would the processor lineup look like in the m860tu? Will the new MB support penryn + montevenia? If that's the case then montevenia will probably be + 500 or something. But if that's not the case - and penryn's will not be there, price will be less (speculating).

BUT - penryn's have only just come out - they are a very recent processor so I figure they will be in the m860tu and we'll have to pay a premium for the montevenia....

I dont know how Sager/Clevo does their marketing with new products, however, i will bet that when they initially release their laptops, they will be a bit overpriced.

If you do get the Alienware now for 2k, wont you just be getting a pretty basic machine with a 8800 in it? Plus you have a m1530 that you just recently got...

mybad.. I saw that site too but I thought it was the consensus here that eurocom was ahead of it's time in terms of pricing/cpu components.

The new platform is supposed to have montevenia but that's nowhere on the eurocom page in the dropdown cpu menu.

A lot of people believe that the eurocom page was posted too early and therefore I think it probably doesn't have the right pricing/processor info for when montevenia comes out.

So really, what i'm asking, and I haven't seen it on other threads - maybe blind - but, if eurocom put it in their dropdown menu after the x9000 or something, or replacing it, how much extra do you think it might cost? Like 1k? or 500?

1530 is going back - dell issues. I hate Dell - honestly.

Aside from that.. Yeah i'd be getting a basic alienware but w the option to upgrade the processor from the t7100 to an x9k in the future, when prices drop when montevenia comes.

Just trying to figure out how much the montevenia base processor might cost.

IMHO, the actual price would only be cheaper but more expensive. no way it should cost more than M570RU

I KNOW we get the bad en of the stick - trust me. Had issues with blu ray drive - after 2 replacements - they messed up the replacements + headaches + 50+ phone calls....yada yada...we get the bad end of the stick for sure.

Although dell owns alienware I like to believe alienware still kept their managing directors instead of dell becoming the sole shareholder and replacing all their directors. Therefore - hopefully dell doesn't own all of alienware and the prior owners still have decent amount of input.

DRTH_STi, I thought I read in your other post that you went through a lot of hassle to successfully replace the LCD screen from the Samsung brand to the LG? Why are you returning it now? I'm just surprised that you did not bother to return the laptop in the beginning but after you dedicated your time for that screen, you now want to return it.

There is no such thing as a perfect laptop, every make has it's quirks or shortcomings. Good luck on your continous hunt though.

    Pulled from wiki

    Montevina platform (2008)

The code-name Montevina refers to the fifth-generation Centrino platform, now formally named Centrino 2 to avoid confusion with previous Centrino platforms. It is scheduled for release at Computex Taipei 2008, taking place on June 3-7, 2008[8]. Montevina will support Penryn, Intel's 45nm die-shrink version of Core 2 processors.

    -
Montevina Centrino 2 vPro Penryn logo

    The Montevina platform consists of:

    * Processors - Socket B / Socket P / Micro-FCBGA
o a second-generation Intel Core 2 Duo (code-named Penryn) 45nm processor with 1066 MT/s FSB with clock speeds ranging from 2.26 GHz to 3.06 GHz, also featuring SSE4.1 support, which adds 47 new instructions to SSSE3. It is planned to consume no more than 29W, compared to Merom's and first-generation Penryn's 34W TDP.

    * an Intel Mobile 45 Express chipset (code-named Cantiga; GM45, GM47 or PM45) with Intel's GMA X4500 graphics technology and ICH9M southbridge, 1066 MT/s front side bus. The graphics core GM45/47 is expected to be clocked at 533/640MHz which will contain ten unified shaders, up from the GMA X3100's eight.
    o RAM supported for DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM.
o NAND flash-memory caching branded as Intel Turbo Memory (code-named Robson 2).
    o Gigabit Ethernet LAN controllers 82567LM and 82567LF (code-named Boazman).[5]
o Main support for DisplayPort with an external connector attached to the motherboard along with full supplemental support of HDMI, DVI, and VGA standards

    * Wireless Modules
o the Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 mini-PCIe adapter (code-named Shiloh), and the add-on card WiMAX (802.16) (code-named Dana Point), or
    o the Intel combo WiFi/WiMAX Link 5150/5350 mini-PCIe adapter (code-named Echo Peak).

Hey bro. Yeah I did successfully get the LG. But I had many other issues with the laptop - far removed from the screen. Dell wants to be a bunch of $*%& about it so i'm getting my money back.

I'm happy I can do it after 60 Days of owning it - far out of their return policy. I guess because of all the problems i've had they made the exception.

Thanks bro. That answers a lot of questions. So it will be reverse compatible with the other processors. That means that the quad core will probably be priced as much or higher than the x9000 is right now.

Design/Looks will be rather hard to beat, won't it? I mean, if the SmartBay can be counted as design, then Clevo had better have a nice alternative to it; that's the real dealbreaker for me.

I personally dont like the looks of the m15x. Its too bulky, flashy and ugly. The m9750 looked better.

The m860tu, looks better than the m57ru, its sleek and sharp. Design wise, if gfx can be counted, then the m15x is agoner due to all its problems.
