    13520 !!

    Hi !

I received my M860TU today, and lol I have been benching all the afternoon using 2 cpus ! The QX9300 and the X9100.

I was a lot wondering what is the best ? higher dual core clock or lower quad core clock ?
I own a QX9300 for AGES ! because I wanted to use it in my older M570TU but M/B haddn't the good revision, I had put it on eBay but thanks gosh it didn't match my reserve price :D then I found a cheap X9100 from China. ( hehe )

I still have my M570TU so I could test the M860TU with both CPU.

After few benchmarks I noticed his good potential !
    I believe I will break 13k with my M860(E)TU, with its QX9300 and its GTX 260M ( without overvolting ) !
    I never bought 3DMark 06 so it's default setting 1280 x 1024 !
(yes and you can check every score online with fully detailled description.)

    What a powerfull 15,4" :D

I was a bit surprise when opening it and seeing a white keyboard O__o a bit flashy but I like it now and wouldn't go back for a black one.

    So here it is :)

    About the 3DMark 06 benchmarks

    First round : X9100 (ES)

Where did you get the laptop from? The white keyboard is pretty sweet! What with approval on the W860CU Keyboard today too it's been a good day for 15" Clevo laptop keyboards.

Too bad about the breaking any records. You'd prossibly break the barrier with a 280M/3700M inside...

I'm sure the W860CU will break it if not (and probably the 14K mark too)

I'll asume the keyboard is white because u play many games.
he just needs to "tweak" the CPU then it will surelly pass 13k

    I got it from http://www.clevo.fr/

Hmm I wouldn't be that optimistic, at least not when it will be released.
Because I don't think there will be GTX 3XXM before the last semester of 2010.
Even if it has i7 processor, I think it will rather lower 3DMark06 score considering the i7 Exterme mobile chip is announced to 2Ghz only x___x and 55 watts X___x.

I think i7 clocked at 2ghz will be a little bit less powerfull than the QX9300 because of its too low speed, it will lower SM2 (-500) and SM3 score ( ~ -200 ) like my QX9300 lowered it compared to X9100.

But 3DMark 06 is getting old...

LOL, I received it today :D and didn't play any games yet lol I want to bench Crysis now.
Yes I saw an easy tweak to raise FSB to 1333 Mhz
    Ehm :D 9,5 * 333Mhz = 3,16 Ghz
I wouldn't dare to try for now lol but if it work and if AC power is enough, I guess you break 14k barrier more than easily, because SM2 & SM3 score would raise up compare to X9100 :D

If I had a better GPU core, I could break 14k, but mine sucks haha. I have gotten 13k at stock GPU clocks using Dox's Performance 182.05 driver however.

Good job with the benchmarks, keep it up, breaking 13k with a 260M and stock clocked QX9300 isn't easy!

Ja , if only I could overclock it a bit ... it would be easy !

Btw did you see my QX9300 CPU scores ???

    First Bench : 3991
    2nd Bench : 4185

even the first bench is a score which is above of the QX9300, and concerning the 2nd Bench O__o I don't understand :D it beats your CPU scores while urs is clocked at 2,9 Ghz.

I thought maybe an overclock ( like ehm 11 * 266 ? ) but it was undervolted to 1.05 volt lol

What temps do you get with each CPU?
Does one run cooler than the other?
That would be a great deal of help choosing between the two.
You will love your new laptop :D

I hadn't even considered the GT300 series yet. The W860CU will arrive most likely appear with 3.0b MXM cards but still using the 260M.

Anyway, don't be fooled by the low 'normal level' clock speed of the new processors. Intel have stated they expect them to be operating alot faster. This is mainly because the design has much better threading abilities than the C2D, while the turbo mode will allow the 920XM to reach steady rates of 3.2Ghz.

However I do agree that I'm cautious of Intel's predicted increase of a 20%(?) performance increase.

As for the 13k limit breaking, good work though I expect it can be broken.

    When it's idling cores are ~ 39 °C / 41 °C
Full load cores are ~62 °C

It doesn't fry my system at all, it not more hot than my X9100 in my M570TU. ( but it wasn't undervolted )

No, I even didn't ask for a different keyboard lol, I ordered a M860TU from www.clevo.fr and I received it with white keyboard ^^

I didn't know it could affect the CPU score, I thought PhysX even if enabled would work there, I'll check it and will retry without, but it's true that my CPU score looks a bit high I had wondered why lol.

You got those clocks without overvolting? You got lucky with that core! You can raise your shader to 1575 with 630 on the core (optimal 1:2.5 ratio). Try Dox's 182.05 performance driver and retest clocks, it won't run at as high of clocks but the driver slaughters 3dmark06.

Yes without overvolting, and GPU can even be clocked at 640 , it ran a 3DMark 06 test successfully but it is the limit, 645 and it froze at 2nd SM2 test lol.
    I'm going to try Dox's 182.05 performance @ 630 / 1040 / 1575.

I would like to overvolt my GTX 260M to 1.05 but I dunno where to get the good bios for and how to flash it ( well it's just I have never flashed before but I know a bit how it works ) do you know where I can get it ? or how can I modify it ?

Do you think it's worth upgrading to a GTX 280M ? ( I plan to overvolt it aswell and overclock it )

I am going to test again my X9100 comparing it to my QX9300 in games, I am still wondering which one is better since I cannot overclock the QX9300... I'm wondering if I should better buying a T9900 then selling my QX9300.

Certain games, well most games will perform a wee bit faster with the X9100. GTA4, Left 4 Dead, Prototype, and other quad core optimized games will run better on the QX9300. If heat isn't a problem, keep the QX. If heat is a concern, then sell both and get a T9900.

The 280M won't be much faster than the 260M. 10% at best, honestly.

Perhaps if I get bored I'll run some 3dmark06 benches at stock QX9300 clocks and see where'd you be.

Thank you ! I'm going to check this with my GTX 260M
You used 182.05 dox's performance driver under vista 64 right ?
Crysis benchmark, is GPU benchmark ?

    I'll post here the result of the GTX 260M @ 600 / 950 / 1500 ;)

it seems my CPU have been helped by my graphic card because of physX driver, disabling PhysX driver should reduce the score. I'll try with disabled PhysX driver to see if there is any difference ( although I managed to overclock my QX9300 and PhysX disabled , I score 12600 at defaut GPU clock, CPU scorewas like 4300 )

    That's with 186.03.

Dox 182.46 and 182.05 (performance) are good performers though. With 182.05, at just 583/950/1450 clocks, and the QX9300 @2.93, I nailed 13k.

My highest score is 13681 with 182.46 and 650/1025/1625. If I was using XP I'd probably break 14k ;)

    Okay,

I managed to overclock my system with setFSB, it's a bit weird though lol.
    I got a various CPU speed / 2730 Mhz / 3016 Mhz ! ( 9.5 * 287 / 10.5 * 287 )

But it only stayed at 2,73 Ghz

That frequency really unlocked my GPU score like did my X9100, I managed to score...

    13520 points ! at default setting ( 1280*1024 ) with my M860TU coming with QX9300 @ 2.73 Ghz GTX 260M ( 600 Mhz / 1040 Mhz / 1500 Mhz but I dunno exactly, rates changed x___x )

Here is the link for detailled result.

    http://service.futuremark.com/resultAnalyzer.action?resultId=11760990&resultType=14

I need an overvolted GTX 260M bios to 1.05 volt :D

Yes but it is in my M570TU and I am selling it soon ^^ I cannot sell it without CPU.

Yes I just tried with setFSB, it works but you cannot choose it just raise u fsb at 1150Mhz and cpu speed to 2730 Mhz ( 9.5 * 287 ) although sometimes my CPU got 1 more multiplier o_O which could really be interesting ! it clock the CPU to 3016 Mhz but when reaching this frequency it's going back to normal multiplier after a second lol

Do you know any other way to overclock CPUs with programs ?

Wow, I'm genuinely surprised at that. So the M860 has better heat management than it's bigger brother?

I'd like to see you plug see if this record can be broken with a dual-core, though it's doubtful. I know you can't OC the X9100 with this machine.

    oh ?

    I didn't say that lol I am a bit confuse now... ^ ^
M570TU can cooler the CPU/GPU more efficiently than the M860TU when using FN key + 1 , it makes fans turning a lot of quickly, but it becomes twice noisily than the M860TU. ( I didn't find that function in M860TU... dun think it exist )

The thing is I have 2 laptop and 2 processors ^^
My M570TU hasn't the good M/B revision so it cannot run the QX9300, that's why I'm oblige to sell it with the X9100.

Hmm maybe under XP, if I overclock the X9100 like I did with the QX9300, it will clock at 3,3 Ghz maybe I can reach 13k , I'll try in few days when I receive new thermal paste ^^

Meanwhile I'm doing a custom modification for a better cooling ^^

Apolgies for misreading you. I believe there is software to help you reduce the speed of the fan. I don't see why the M57O can't operate at a noise level /heat reduction level of similar proportions.

I'm surprised that no one has noted that the X9100 beats the QX9300 by about 10% in FPS and total graphics scores. (Yep, raw speed counts in games.)

It would be interesting to see the comparison in a more demanding game benchmark (Crysis?) with higher resolutions.

Nice performance, though, with both CPUs!

Yes, clockspeed will boost your SM 2.0 score, not so much 3.0 though. At high enough clocks, it will surpass the score of the quad core. I'd suspect with the X9100 @3.53, I'd pass 6k SM 2.0 easily.

For sure I noticed it, I got lower FPS with QX9300 in both SM2 & last SM3 test, 1st SM3 test it makes no difference.

    But it's 3DMark 06, it's different in games really.

Concerning, Crysis High setting Benchmark GPU / CPU , it's routhly the same !
a lilttle advange for X9100 for GPU benchmark , a lil advantage for QX9300 in CPU benchmark, it's represent less than 1 fps

    I will try soon ( maybe tomorrow or saturday, I ordered new thermal pastes , with Overclocked QX9300 @ 2,73 Ghz / X9100 @ 3,3 Ghz )

Just through the Nvidia system tools but I believe it requires the Nvidia chipset.

I don't know if it will work with windows 7, but try 185.20, it's by far the best Vantage driver and how I broke 6100 GPU score.

With my X9100 I broke new records !

    @ 3,3 Ghz , I broke 6000 at SM2 score !
Unfortunately not the 13k yet !
but I believe I'll break it with XP ! hmm but I formated my disk again and installed 7 on the whole disk as it got better FPS for crysis , other game benchmark I dun care they all run fluently.

    Here it is !

    12790 !

    ( 6000 + SM2 score ! )
