    Hi !

Did you ever noticed that without the 'backplate' of your laptop , it runs a lot cooler ??
I dun use notebook cooler , I hate them.
So I wanted a decent cooling system without notebook cooler.

    Here are the pictures !

I will improve the cooling today... I'll uploadnew shots.
So far it runs almost as cool as when the backplate is removed lol
as you may wonder , the backplate is still tough since the grid was quite tough too

I made it all myself with a minimum of tools ( but I cut my fingers several times LOL )

The blade from a 'steel saw' [IMG]

And a cutter to make it looking better [IMG]

And finally a kind of paper [IMG]
    (but with little grains)

To make edges softer, but becare with the saw to not break to plastic plate and cutter to not cut your fingers like I did ( 4 times LOL )

And it's longer to do than it looks LOL.

By the way, on the lower left side of picture 2. There is that large screw with a little cover. Looks like there are some pins under it, but for what?

    At idle, my QX9300 @ 2,73 Ghz ( 9,5 * 287 / 1,25 volt but it's stable at 1.0875 volt ) cores were idling at ~ 39 / 40 °C ( low fan speed )

Graphic card as idling at 39 ° C aswell and HDD was at 42 °C

I didn't measured really when it was under full load

    Thank you ^^

and for all the light bulbs that go off (quadcore, monster venting, copper everywhere), i can't bring myself to do it because the P9700 is so cool.

The only ones i've done are 8GB and the x25-m

but not so hot as other parts right?
honestly , it does look strong enough , but i doubt the thin section between ram and wifi card...

Right. The wireless card and the RAM don't get as hot as the other components, but they still do produce a considerable amount of heat. MikjoA's goal was to get this notebook to run as cool as running it without the backpanel, essentially to get it to run as cool as possible, and that includes every component on the system. I don't know what numbers we will see when the notebook is standalone on a desk, but with a notebook cooler, we can expect double digit temperature drops across the board.

However, the problem with the design that I see here is with storage and transportation. The backpanel sacrifices a whole lot for superior cooling. It would be fine if the laptop stays at home most of the time. But when it's time to take it along in a backpack or a sleeve, the bottom of the laptop has zero protection against dust or pressure. And with more than half of the backpanel gone, the components have almost no shielding against static or EMI.

You can always put some flat rebar on the sections where reinforcement is needed.

Right, if it's a desktop-bound computer, I would agree that this is a genius idea, however there is very little bottom structural integrity left to the bottom plate. A good hit to the bottom could split the bottom in half, and that could leave the guts susceptible to damage (and a motherboard, is NOT a cheap piece of green and chippy PCB). I second the idea for reinforcing bars. What though would fit in such a small area though, is unclear at this point.

Oh and Soviet, I cancelled the SSD, i posted at length in the SSD thread about it.

Maybe you could stick some little copper ram heatsinks on if you are worried about the RAM temperatures.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. That little sliver of thermoplastic is the achilles heel of what's left of the backpanel and if enough pressure is put against that section, the bottom half of the panel will be done for.

All of the screws are still in place, the "cookie cuts" should still be just as rigid. Having blank spaces are holes inviting destruction, but if properly handled should do ok.

    It's certainly running cool :D

Very Nice! Cool looking with the blue grating. I also think it will be fine if handled properly. Of course the dust bunnies will fine their way in easier but nothing a can of compressed air weekly can't handle. Oh and very nice temps.

With setFSB, I used an other PLL, it also work for M570TU.
    Use the RTM-876-660.

Get FSB (do nothing ) click on Set FSB ( do nothing ) it will fisrt reduce your CPU speed , but after 10 second , it will increase it ! it will overclock ur CPu of 8% , your ram of 8% and ur GPU/shader of 8% ( so when u do it be sure u are running GPU stock speed.

But I guess using other PLLs might be risky... so becarefull !

Thanks , I am not worried concerning dust etc, I often open the backpanel and clean inside ^^ so my laptop remain very clean.

I saw this and I decided to do it aswell myself and improve it by adding a hole on the left.
I didn't buy my M860TU at invasion labs but at www.clevo.fr

You can see the grid isn't the same on my mod.
and that the L shape hole is a bit different on mine

99 € , I ad looked , too expensive plus sending ur laptop there , addind shipping prices.

I did it myself for less 20 €

    Ja ja ...

I'll post it in time (soon ) , I'm just a bit overcharged at the moment...

But you can already look at such a comparison :

    * ORIGINE = ORIGINAL
    * GRILLE = GRID

The result are analyzed with this mod :
