For some reason, starting yesterday my M860's touchpad has been going nuts at arbitrary times. By "going nuts" I mean that the mouse begins to move up and down rapidly as though someone were actually moving it, and it is highly resistant to all horizontal movement (all non-user-initiated motion from the touchpad causes vertical movement only). I know it's the touchpad causing this because when I use FN-F1 to turn off the touchpad, the motion stops. I've tried updating drivers to Synaptics drivers, which caused the touchpad to stop working altogether, so I went to Sager's website and downloaded their latest drivers. These appeared to fix the issue temporarily, but then it happened again a few minutes ago, so I figured I should ask around.

You're certain that you don't have a finger or arm on part of the trackpad during these times?

I've moved both hands off the laptop completely and observed the pointer have a little spasm.

Wow. I'd definitely reinstall the drivers. And make doubly sure you have the latest. Of course, it could be a hardware issue, which would be worse.

The one's I'm on from Sager right now are the latest, I'll try the latest ones from Synaptics again.

My old dell used to do that. Turns out it was the trackstick (nipple mouse in middle of keyboard) cable being crushed under the kbd. Solved it by cutting the cable...

Doesn't help you though I'm afraid as you don't have a nipple mouse.

I feel fairly confident that this isn't a hardware issue, as the track pad behavior seems too strange. Here's the exact situation:

The unelicited movement varies from anywhere between slight shaking up and down to movement across half the screen. Movement is ENTIRELY in the vertical direction. All unelicited movement stops completely when a finger is placed on the touchpad. At this point, I can move the pointer up and down only, any horizontal movement simply isn't registered. Vertical movement, however is precise. As in proportional to the movement of my finger. If it was a cabling issue, I feel like all movement should be equally affected.

Apparently it is a hardware issue. I just called PNB tech support, and they diagnosed it as one and gave me an RMA. =/ Second time I've had to send this laptop back since I bought it, the first was for a bad screen
