First, some background: I'm running the default graphics drivers from Sager on Windows XP. My essential specs are:

    320gb 5400 rpm HDD
    9800m GT
    1680x1050 LCD
    2.4ghz proc

Anyways, of the game demos I've tested so far, UT3 and Company of Heroes run completely smoothly maxed out, but when I try to play the Crysis or World in Conflict demos, my laptop experiences a sudden framerate drop about every 30 seconds (from 30 fps to 20 in Crysis on high and 1280x800, 45 or so to 25 in WiC). Then the game resumes running smoothly. This happens even if I set all of the graphics options to the absolute minimum. The laptop is on AC power, although I haven't found a way to guarantee it's at full performance.

Driver issue of some sort - it's possible that the games, by themselves, use up so much of the system's resources that the hiccupping is actually caused by something like wireless/bluetooth polling, or background hdd I/O. As a first start, try disabling both wireless and bluetooth to see if that has any effect.

Didn't work. I'm going to try some different drivers.

    Edit: no luck with 177.92

Edit2: Fixed by removing the battery.
