I recently succeeded updating my sager np8660 laptop to the newest bios 1.02.16 to fix the hissing noise. Everything went well, except now that I can't get my system to SLEEP. It seems like no matter what I do I cannot get it to sleep. I don't know if it is because of the new bios or the graphic driver.
I also have the beta driver from NVidia installed for 9800M GT.
Does anyone having the same issue?
Please advise,
Thanks,
-
Did you install them both at the same time or in a period before you put the system to sleep?
Normally when there are sleep issues, especially when its waking up from sleep, its a graphics driver problem. However, this time you are saying you can't make it go to sleep...hmmm...could possibly be the BIOS update. Try downgrading to the earlier bios and see if that helps.
Also, did the whining go away? -
You're right. I believe it has to do with the BIOS update. Before the BIOS updates, I'm using the newest graphic driver from NVIDIA and there was no issue with sleep. Then I updated to the newest BIOS (1.02.16) and notice I cannot put my computer to sleep. It's just sitting there do nothing when I put it to sleep.
Btw, the whining noise went away even Bluetooth on/off with the newest BIOS. I'm going to downgrade the bios and see what happen.
Thanks for your response Deathwinger. -
Let me know what happens, I'll be most interested to find out as I would like this whining gone once and for all.

This is getting weird. The problem here I believe is not the bios. It's the power plans in Vista and Nvidia graphic driver. I set my laptop power usage to Balanced and it can go to sleep when i close the lid. When change it to High Performance, it cannot go to sleep. Don't know why it can't go to sleep in High Performance mode. I read somewhere that it has something to do with the graphic driver?
-
It is my stupidity.
It turns out to be the Vista thing with High Performance power mode selected. I managed to get it to sleep in High Performance mode by doing this
Control Panel > Power options > (High Performance) Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Multimedia Settings > When Sharing Media
--Change the plugged in setting to "allow computer to sleep" or "prevent idling to sleep"
So this has nothing to do with the bios or the graphic driver or anything. It's Vista way of doing thing when you have media sharing. -
So then we are good with the latest bios doing only what we want and getting rid of the cpu whine?
If so, I will be updating soon along with Windows 7. -
The whining seems to be gone with the newest bios. In fact, I like the new bios even more when my vista rating jump from 5.0 to 5.4. It seems to fix the memory and now after flashed with the new bios, my vista rating of memory change from 5.0 to 5.9.
EDIT: I think I am also gonna go with Windows 7. I had tried Windows 7 with the old bios and seemed to be unstable. It would randomly restart my PC by itself. Hope with this new bios, Windows 7 will run smoother and possibly I can install OpenSuSe?? Will see tonight, keep you update on this. -
As mentioned before, I had succeeded in install OpenSuSe 11.1 with this newest bios (1.02.16) unlike the old ones.
M86tu sleep issue after update newest bios 1.02.16 ???
