What kind of upgrades can I do to my M570RU (Sager NP5790 I think) ?

I currently have the 7950GTX on it (sounds so ancient though I bought it only a year and a half ago :) ). Can I upgrade it to 9800M GT ? If so, does any one sell the mobile GPUs or should I only go through Sager ?

And how far can I go on the CPU ?

    Thanks
    Arun

    EDIT: I'll take that back.

I read the title and only saw the U at the end and thought you had a Napa platform notebook.

the correct model number is M570 RU.

then yes you can upgrade to 8800M or 9800M.

"the top videocard you can get is the 7950GTX (which you already have)"...

I don't think this is the case.... I remember that Sager had an upgrade program for NP5790 to upgrade to the 8800M GTX for around $750... I skipped it because it seemed too expensive... but now that we have a cheaper 9800M GT, wanted to know if my laptop would support that...

I read in one of the other posts that the MR570U can be upgraded with Penryn... I am not too concerned with upgrading the CPU though, but would be interested in knowing the options...

Talk to zfactor, he has a lot of experience with what you can, and cannot, actually upgrade on these systems.

pm replied lmk if i can help further.
he can in fact use the 8800gtx and we have also put the 9800gt from a 570tu into a 5793 and it worked fine.. so im sure he can also use the 9800gt. as for cpu's anything from the first gen penryn's will work up to the x9000..

Mine is a 5790, not the 5973. Would that make it any different ? Also I remember people talking about the sleep option would not work after the upgrade unless we get the motherboard modded (or upgraded ?) by Sager. Is it true for the 9800 GT as well ?

Also how about the 9800 GTX ? Would that work with 5790 ?

I tried searching through the internet but nobody seems to be selling mobile video cards. Does anyone know any retailer that sell mobile video cards ?

No we can use same cards.
zfactor had already provided that it is not true for 8800m gtx.
    I don't see why not.

no difference. i have not yet known though of a 9800gtx used in a previous generation 579x so i can not answer the question about the 9800gtx but i dont see why it would not work.. the 9800gtx is simply the 9800gt with a smaller die and a bit more in it... nothing much else has been changed. but imo i would not spend almost double to get the 9800gtx it has shown a mere 5-10% increase at best so far from benchmarks posted by people.. the 9800gt is the way to go if you can get it for 525$ as others said they were quoted

SLEEP WORKS FINE... trust me.. done worry about it. once you upgrade the bios to the 1.00.08 there is 0 problems with sleep. i actually sent sager a video that i made to show them it worked fine and the tech i spoke with still denied it after that, cant argue with a cold hard video showing the card and everything.. lol

the correct model number is M570 RU.

Then yes, you can upgrade to 8800M GTX and probably even 9800M's.

I just called Sager and the guy at Sager said they only have the 9800M GTX 1GB... I specifically asked for the 9800M GT 512MB and he said they don't sell it... wierd... :(

contact a reseller like XoticPC or Powernotebooks, they might have better support for you.

.. also you can get the videocards through:
    - Eurocom
    - RJtech

    just contact them directly.
