If you look at the connectors.

For MXM 2.1,
I/II/III/IV : card size.
standard/HE : connector type.
We will have 8 cobinations for MXM 2.1 cards but only 6 exist in practice.
I-standard,II-standard,III-standard,III-HE,IV-standard,IV-HE
The picture in your MXM-upgrade link shows
I-standard,II-standard,III-standard,III-HE,IV-standard.
When we talk about an HE card, it may just refer to a MXM 2.1 III-HE one.
But, notice that there is indeed IV-HE cards such as clevo 7950GTX(right). -

If you look at the connectors there and use the http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/types.html. Then that should be a HE. This is what confuses me. -
Type III includes III-standard and III-HE....
Remember III just means size,no more no less.
So both type III-HE(you say HE) and type III-standard cards are type III cards of course.
Sometimes people say type III which only refers to III-standard and sometimes people say type III which refers to both.
That's how things get confusing.
Besides, someone even mistakes type III to MXM 3.0, that did happen and drove me crazy. -
Thank you!
MXM III and MXM HE
