It might be the BIOS that's stopping it.

MXM 2.1 I-IV slots are downwards compatible. Meaning, a MXM II 9600M GT can fit in a MXM IV slot; such as in the M860TU.

Is there even an MXM 4? I thought the latest was MXM 3.something?

He's referring to MXM 2.1 revision IV.

I know this is slightly off-topic, but how often do the MXM specifications change generally? I'm of course thinking about it mainly from the perspective of upgrading. Like the new MXM 3 - is it likely to be good for only one generation of cards, or two..?

If the upgrade chances are generally only one generation, it might end up being pointless to get a more expensive i7 mobile rig (compared to a Q9000 one or such) after all, even if I am able to buy the computer only in January or so. So hard to tell... I want to be able to see the future :D

(Oh, and I guess there's also the question about the likelyhood for future GPU BIOS support, the lack of which would make upgradeability a moot point anyway as from what I've read it seems MXM isn't quite the plug and play system that the desktop PCI-E x16 is.)
