I just received an email this beautiful Sunday morning from Josh over at MYTHLOGIC with some good news! He told me that "all 6990m's from this point forward will be shipping with the 204 heatsink. .......confirmed with suppliers." So I guess the stressful waiting for all those customers wanting the 6990m, including me (LOL!), is over! Now I can start configuring a system with the I7-2720 CPU, 16 GB 1600 RAM, 6990m videocard, that spiffy 17.3" 90% GAMUT glossy screen, etc, etc, instead of just lurking and waiting for this issue to be resolved for the past several weeks!
By the way, while reading the other thread on the availability of the 6990m at another seller, I came across a comment about special discounts on their systems having the 6990m videocard. I was ready to buy a system from them immediately! However, after "opening a ticket" on their site yesterday as instructed in the comment, I was REFUSED the special discounts, because I will not have "waited long enough!" Please clarify this comment, so others don't try to get these discounts in the future, especially the one I was going to take advantage of, where you could upgrade to a 580 videocard for just $99! Living on a 100% disabled vet's pension check, you better believe I got excited about that one! LOL!

Unfortunately the -204 heatsink performs exactly the same as the -203 (Sager performed several tests with both heatsinks). As for the special discounts (I'm assuming you mean Malibal's free overnight shipping, free IC 7, free upgrade to 1600MHz ram, upgrade to GTX 580M for $99), those were meant for the customers who pre-ordered their systems with the 6990M card in late July/early august and have been waiting pretty much 1 month for their laptop (like me).

Woa, need more coffee, scared me there for a second about the second part of your post.. didn't see the different seller :p

Anyways, yea we've seen the temps being the same on the 203 and 204, however, the tension on the 204 is a little different and doesn't have as much give, so it holds it down a bit better, doesn't really affect anything, but always good to have the latest rev if you can get it.

So let me get this straight...we have been waiting all this time for a heatsink which in actual fact is no different from the older version...thus not only did we have to wait so long, but we still have the same problem of over-heating!?

Malibal has reported much lower temperatures now. Overheating shouldn't be a problem anymore, but yes, we did "waste" our time for a heatsink that does pretty much the same as the old one.

Oh? well, as long as the over-heating problems are a thing of the past, I'd say the wait was worth it.

I don´t know if the temps from malibal were realistic. 64C after 3d11 would be very nice. But have a look at cpu temps and compare it with the temps two days earlier. There is a difference of 10C. Find that all at malibal 6990m thread.

Yea, I don't know how or why---but it seems the 6990m's super high heat issue is resolved/reduced. It's because it runs on stock 1.1v....really high for a mobile GPU, so I wouldn't OC except with the default AMD Overdrive which puts it at 740MHz.

Malibal have been tweaking with the 6990m. Although I'm not quite sure exactly what they have been doing, their temperatures do more closely match other reported temps from users. I have read the 6990m thread, there are a lot of complaints of high temperatures, but there are also those with reportedly decent temps like the one's you've listed.

Folks, I got "burned" (oh, that's a bad pun!) several years ago when I was still working and able to lay down $3000 for a laptop without fainting. I bought a brand new Dell XPS 1710 M, which in 2006 was a top line laptop. Now, I don't want anyone to think I spend hours playing games (LOL), but it ran most stuff pretty well, including Doom 3 and Oblivion. Unfortuneatly, the video card (nvidea 6900???) got so hot that it eventually came apart. I have actually read about people disassembling their laptop, digging out the video card and baking it in their oven upside down, remelting the paste and bringing it back to "life" for weeks or even months! They didn't mention if magical incantations were necessary......No replacement video card was ever offered that solved this problem, and most people just gave up after getting the card replaced three or four times......
So, I understand what overheating can do to an expensive laptop, and want to avoid a similar situation on my next purchase. That's where faith in your computer seller comes in! Based on the service I got from Dell after the sale, I am simply amazed they are still in business! They threw me both ends of the rope once they got their money, and I am not the only one who is still steamed about that! But I think that the sellers we have participating on this board are honorable people, and if Malibal says they have the overheating issues under control with the 6990m, I think we can believe them. They have everything to gain by telling us the truth, and everything to lose by not. As for the 6990m, could it be that this chip simply runs a heck of alot hotter due to it's operating voltage? The nature of the beast? But if something goes wrong in the future, I believe these folks will stand behind their product and take care of us! That's why I want to buy from one of them, and not some "faceless" corporation who doesn't care about me as a person (like my experiences with the VA) and that you almost need to take to court to get them to honor the terms of their own warranties!
So I will be ordering one with the 6990m in the near future, and rely on the support of the seller if something else goes wrong. If worst comes to worst, it can always be an excuse to get a newer, faster video card, right? I really like how the Sager/Clevo laptops can be easily upgraded!

That's interesting. We all know my experience with the 6990M and it hitting 106 degrees. I RMA'd the laptop but my switch to the 580M cost me $200.00. They gave me free overnight (from the original delay of the 6990) however I paid for IC7. Not sure about the 1600mhz ram upgrade. Don't see it on my order details but Malibal stated in an email they would upgrade it for me.

unfortunate for you, those offers came as result of your 6990M debacle, which further delayed shipments of the P150HM w/ 6990M.

Dabooosh, I know how frustrating it is when you are paying top-dollar for a cutting edge piece of technology, and you want it to be perfect, but it falls short of the mark! However, everything I am seeing about Malibal tells me that they want to "make it right" for their paying customers. I am sure you have looked at resellerratings.com and seen hoe highly rated they, and the other sellers here on the Sager/Clevo board are rated! They go the extra mile for their customers, and I am sure it makes them feel terrible when one of their products doesn't meet our high expectations. I think they probably have their hands full right now doing what they can to take care of everyone. Unlike the huge, faceless computer outlets, they value an excellent relationship with their customers, not simply because it is good business, but because it's the right thing to do. Hey, regarding your 580 video card, is it true that it is more overclockable than the 6990m? Of course, I wouldn't try to do that with a computer because I'd probably melt the thing! But perhaps it will work out for the best that you have the 580 and that great 3d display?
Thanks for continuing to share your experience with all of us....I am learning slot!
