Could it be possible that the software issues are due to my Win 7 64 bit Pro being a Trial version? I got it from a legit source so there shouldn't be any issues, windows runs fine, all hardware runs fine, UNTIL I install AMD drivers. Then it flips and BSOD or Crashes.
I've been going through this for HOURS for the past 2 days. None of the drivers will work except the 9.0 AMD drivers for 7970m, I can get them to work but then once I restart the computer it crashes miserably and I cant get back in even with system restore points, I have to get the img of my computer off of my external where I made a back up.
Is there any way this could be hardware related? It seems as though it works when I have the beta drivers except BF3 gets "Query errors" which I read were due to the Driver being unsupported as its a beta.
I play Diablo 3 maxed out for an hour + and it works fine, Tribes ascend also works fine, both fully maxed out. And when BF3 doesn't get errors I play on a mix of High/ultra settings just fine at 1080p.
So I don't think its the card itself but possibly a software issue?

just use the drivers that work at the moment until a newer stable driver is released.
-
They "work" but barely. I can't restart the computer; if I do then they dont work any longer and I get system crashes. -_-.
-
contact your reseller
-
seriously you are the only person on these forums that is having this particular issue so i dont see how it could be anything other than something physically wrong with your laptop unless you are installing things incorrectly
-
format your SSD and re-install everything, should fix it
-
-
I've done it a load of times. I actually think the problem could possibly be that my Windows 7 wasn't activated during the installations of the drivers.
I have no idea why that would matter but I'm trying it now with it activated... -
I contacted them but I don't want to RMA -_-, I've waited months already.
Also whats the best way to format an SSD?
I read that just deleting the windows partition and writing over it does a quick format which is fine w/ SSDs/ -
It's now hanging on the Catalyst install during AMD driver installs. It has been frozen for almost 10 minutes; think I may try a restore to my stable disk img then try it.
-
I`ve tried the catalyst 12.7 at first and also 12.6 but it never worked for me. needed to uninstall and re-install the one I got on the drivers cd. that did it for me I am now stable and fast
As far as I am concerned I'll just avoid Catalyst drivers for now and stick the supplied one. It`s just too unstable at the moment. -
-
have you tried reinstalling windows, without installing anything else but Intel chipset driver, restarting, then intel graphics driver, restarting again and finally AMD driver. If you install just these basics and still have issues then it has to be a hardware problem.
-
Many times I did full reinstalls and many times I used the image.
-
First time I installed the 12.7 drivers the computer didn't play well with them...so I uninstalled them and installed the disc drivers. That went well. I was at 1080p with aero etc. Then I tried to install 12.7 over the disc drivers and got a blue screen. Now I'm back to the disc drivers. Any way to get from where I am to 12.7 safely?
-
I can't even get the normal disc drivers to load up without error so far -_-
-
EDIT: all drivers above should be from the manufacturer's CD. And there should be a full re-install, with a wipe of all previous data on the HDD. -
I did these steps again to be sure. I'm pissed, it failed again... -_- Something must be wrong with the way they installed the GPU.
When I got it the back had a cracked piece on the corner, on the bottom panel that you can remove. Considering they couldn't get that easy piece installed I would be led to believe that they easily could have messed up my GPU installation somehow. -

Do you have another drive you can try in stead of the SSD, maybe from your previous notebook? Could be the SSD, have you tried to update the firmware for it. It really doesnt sound like a drive issue but you're tried the usual culprits.
-
I tried a 500GB Seagate hybrid drive in it, it BSOD even faster than my Crucial M4 256gb. I don't understand whats wrong with it -_-
No one else is having errors like me. I did a clean install of Win 7 64bit Pro, then I installed Chipset drivers off the clevo driver disk, rebooted, installed intel hd drivers, rebooted, installed AMD drivers, CRASH.
-_-
I've tried many times, and this seems to always be the case. This or it works decently on the 12.6 beta drivers and then once I reboot the computer it crashes. -
Have you tried using the 12.7 beta drivers? if that doesn't work i heard the 12.4 ones work the best, also have you updated the crucial m4's firmware to 000f? if that doesn't work try using the 0309 firmware for the crucial drive, if that doesn't work try removing the cmos battery and leaving out for 15-30mins for good measure, try removing all power sources as well, i.e un plug remove battery and press power button.

Try another copy of Windows, you can download an .iso here http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html then burn that and use your current key
-
Going to try this; thanks Hutsady. Also; could it make my machine unstable [BSOD's Boot up Loops etc.] if I am running on Trial version? I was going to wait to buy windows until I can get a student discount, but may not be able to if this is my problem.
Is it possible that running trial version could ruin it like that? I'm almost positive my version was from Digital River. A reseller of microsoft... -
I have used Technet a lot and I have had my share of driver issues when using an OS from Microsoft's website. These were not Trial versions, theoretically they should be identical to the Retail version. However my experience is that they are problematic.
-
I installed my copy of Windows 7 a while back (from digital river), never put in a key, and still haven't activated. (Though it does come up with a "you need to activate windows" bubble every few days.) I have like 8 days left before I need to activate, and I've been gaming quite frequently with no problems. This is not the problem.
Have you used a program like bluescreenview to see what that BSOD is really about? I mean we're assuming its related to the 7970m...I had a switchable graphics card problem on my wife's samsung 7 series that kept giving a BSOD whenever I installed catalyst updates...turned out to be a bad stick of ram. Just an idea--it doesn't hurt to run memtest for a couple hours to see if they're both good.
You can also take the video card out and re-seat it to see if there was a problem there. -
Eurocom said they ran memtest for 12 hours on it and had no issues. I have ran everything just fine except for the 7970m. -_-
The CPU and RAM are recognized and seem legit.
I have the legitimate copy from digital river, same one as you, did a fresh install, and installed my Chipset drivers off the disk, restarted, then installed VGA drivers for AMD/Intel, then it asks to restart, so I did, and boom won't boot up.
Then I restart again and it will boot up but the 7970m and intel 4000 are disabled and have errors in device manager ...
This was the digital river copy w/ SP1, Win 7 Pro 64 bit. Was going to buy a key in a few weeks when I can get a student discount from Cal Poly Pomona, the college I'm about to go to. -
System would freeze on boot after drivers are installed. Windows 7 64 bit works fine when the drivers are disabled. New catalysts say device has reported problems (Code 43).
Did you manage to solve your problem somehow? -
Major software issues with 7970m
