I was looking at Malibal's site and when configuring your laptop their is now an option to pick a 680m with an ETA of end of June...

Since I am still waiting for my laptop with a 7970m, and are unlikely to get my laptop until July. I am really tempted to switch my order, anyone else in the same boat?

Well, not to talk bad about Malibal or anything (other builders were in the same boat), but they also said they would have the 7970m's by the end of May and, as far as I know, they didn't get a single 7970m out of the first shipment.

Their ETA is based on Clevo's ETA, and Clevo seems to prioritize their orders to Sager (seeing as how Sager makes the vast majority of Clevo laptops in the US). I would not take that late June ETA as definite, and if a problem arises in the 680m like what happened with the 7970m, you'll likely be pushed out even farther.

Plus, is it really worth $300 for that much of a performance increase? The 7970m is still a beast, and it's temps give lots of overclocking headroom.

Hmm, you make a few good points... I probably would be better spent on upgrading the cpu to the 3820.

    Thanks man!

Yeah, you would probably end up waiting the same amount of time for the 680M as your 7970M.

What have you heard of the 7970's temps? It is the GPU I am going with and I was wondering about heat. Do you have a link or is it your personal experience with the card?

Are you sure it's necessary to upgrade the CPU? If you are going to be gaming the i7 3610QM will be fine. The cost of upgrading the processor could most likely be put towards the purchase of an SSD to go with the HDD. This depends if you are looking at the Satori or the Lotus and whether or not you want an ODD.

My 7970M has almost never broken 75 C with IC Diamond.

Well most of my information comes from the 7970m v 680m thread over in the gaming section ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/658185-amd-7970m-vs-gtx-680m.html). It's so long at this point that I don't want to go looking for it, but you can find it. Most people are getting temps of around 70C-75C, and the 680m is expected to be between 5C-10C hotter than the 7970m (possibly even higher). I think most of these temperatures are in Alienware laptops, not Clevos, so YMMV.

I decided to find at least one example to not look silly, and this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...85-amd-7970m-vs-gtx-680m-234.html#post8590152 has a pretty sweet example.
