I don't know if this is a limited time deal or old news, but I just noticed that the cost of the screen upgrade for the P150EM SE is only $65 at Malibal now, down from $95. Pretty awesome.
I can now spend the saved money to upgrade my network card.![]()

Yeah, at that price it seems like a bit of a no-brainer.
-
yeah but their overall base price is somewhat higher than others lol..
-
It's hard to compare the base prices as the base specs are different. Mythlogic's base price is higher than others as well, but upgrades tend to be cheaper plus they offer more things as standard. I find when I spec a system out with the major retailers, Mythlogic's prices are pretty competitive.
-
Not sure which model you are referring to, but the P150EM with the exact same specification on Mythlogic is definitely more expensive than what you can get from Xotic PC.
-
It depends HOW you spec it out. Most of the upgrades from Mythlogic are cheaper. The specs I want for my P170 from Myth are within about $50 of what it'd cost if I bought it from Xotic (assuming you're adding in screen calibration, IC diamond thermal paste, etc which comes standard from Myth).
-
they actually increased the base price by $30 and decreased the price of the screen upgrade by $30.
so the only real change is that the stock screen is now $30 more expensive. -
Well, it's because the stock screen is now Matte instead of glossy ($30 upgrade), so basically, you don't save any money.
-
I will say that those who are looking for the lowest price on a Sager/Clevo notebook should go with Xotic PC. Although Malibal seems to offer pretty competitive pricing with more available options and Mythlogic offers even greater range of options if you don't mind the price.
I'm definitely a bit disappointed that I couldn't order a Clevo with GTX 660M from a Sager reseller. However the price I paid ($1,072.13) for the configuration in my signature was just too good to pass up. -
Have you looked into LPC Digital? When looking at all the resellers and contacting them, LPC gave me the best price by a fair margin. They advertise to not only match the lowest competitor price, but beat it.

Where did you get that price? -
That's the non backlit unit

'Scuse me here, but I belive you're not entirely right... I just spec'd out P150EM's at Mythlogic and Xotic with the following specs, and Mythlogic beat Xotic by $10 after the 3% off, and Xotic has no equivalent to the Phoenix upgrade plan:
Matte 95% screen
3720QM
7970m
IC diamond
Color calibration
32GB@1600MHz
500GB 7200RPM
BR combo
intel 6300
Win7 pro
3 year warranty
I agree with slapshot, Larry can beat Xotic. -

Many sellers have extended labor warranties. With our lifetime labor warranty we have always done upgrades just over cost, just considered it normal business practice and not advertise it as a benefit. I think most sellers operate just like this. -
Well I am embarrass to have made such a mistake. I didn't even know that Mythlogic offers 3% cash discount. They aren't making it noticeable like the others. I wonder if they will throw in free shipping with full cash discount too.
I don't really see what so great about Mythlogic's Phoenix Upgrade Plan. Most people will care to upgrade either the CPU or the GPU, but with notebook computers there a high certainty that upgrade is won't be possible when new technologies for these items become available. Even if you can you'll probably end up spending 800+ on both the CPU and the GPU, a price which you can probably spend on a completely new computer. The incentive is not really there for me. However I love Mythlogic's wide range of available configurations. -
Then you might want to advertise it more...
No, I was talking about Xotic's 3% off. And the whole point of the phoenix upgrade plan is so you don't have to pay $800+ to upgrade, you can get it at the normal upgrade price+10%. So, if you had a 675m and wanted to go to 7970m, they would only charge ~$100 and take your 675m, on top of restoring your computer to refurbished condition and re-doing their quality check. That's pretty great to me. -
I thought that it was more of a "we buy a brand new card for you", then we pay the full card price + labour (if you don't have a myth computer). myth, wanna chime in here?
-
I was certainly planning on going with LPC, as they're fairly close (I remember reading somewhere that Larry's in LA, I'm in Pasadena). Then I realized that I'd have to deal with sales tax, and LPC doesn't give the option to downgrade to 1333 MHz RAM. Someone can shout at me (and provide a source) if I'm terribly, terribly wrong, but my computer science type friends assure me that the performance improvements from the 1600 MHz aren't going to be noticeable.
-
Here:
It's not noticeable except for the iGPU. I've heard up to 15% performance increase, but don't quote me on that. Then again, you wouldn't exactly be gaming on your iGPU, would you? -
actually the iGPU can game pretty well, albeit not your average buttermilk fluidity, I've tested it and it gives decent performance along the lines of a 520m 530m. It helps when you're in a pinch and want to finish a quick session of online gaming and don't have access to an outlet plug for the adapter.

As others have said most are not going to upgrade the laptop with the seller. Most users will not do a video card and if they do it will be off of Ebay or off the NBR Marketplace due to pricing. Additionally most can handle the task of upgrading a Hard Drive or Ram. Nearly all sellers sell parts at cost or just over as I stated and not advertise it, it is considered a standard operating procedure of a honest business. Regardless it is kind of a moot point but maybe it is worth mentioning as you say.
Malibal 95% NTSC high gamut display upgrade now only $65
