Just curious which Malibal lines allow you to OC the CPU

I am aware the satori p170hm is not able to be OC'd but what about the lotus series? Are any of this bios locked? Which?

Thank you...posting from my phone bc the "hurricane" has knocked out power.

The P170hm is able to be overclocked as long as you have the 2920xm processor.

The i7-2920XM is OC'able on the P170HM with the HM67 chipset (non 3D screen version).

How does the 3d screen affect oc'ing?

Oh, so only the XM series is OC'able?
    None of the QM's? Thanks

Apparently the 120hz screen draws enough power that when combined with an ovetclocked CPU the power draw is enough to fry the mobo so Clevo stopped providing an unlocked bios for that model. Unfortunately, I only know this due to just cancelling an order for a 3d model with a 2920xm that I wanted to overclock. :(

Nope, the Turbo Boost is the reason you can't overclock the qm's. Intel designed them to have Turbo boost as a sort of automatic overclock. They clock up to specific thermal thresholds, which in general are about as high as they'll go (safely). So they just locked out overclocking/multipliers in all the qm models.

It is basically arbitrary though, as it's the way "binning" works and they could theoretically allow OC'ing on all the processors if they wanted to (and the chipsets supported them)

They (not Manibal) told me that they saw 3D version mobos die without any reason even without OC...Clevo better gets their act together...i have not bought a "High-End-System" and a 1000USD CPU just to browse the web.
So the only way to go for inbuild 3D, 2920XM OC and 580m is the Alienware, sorry but that design won`t make it into my living space. :p

BTW: The 1.01.03 Bios for the 3D is on Clevos Server (all versions before where 1.01.02 and then b,c,d,e,f "betas"?).
It looks allmost identical to the f version, though it now expects the EC firmware to be 1.00.06.)

And no,the "Performance Tuning" option has not made it back yet. :( Hope it returns once they have found the "real culprit" and get that baby stable.

Can any resellers confirm this is an issue?

Dude, some people just have been very honest with me (Kudos :D).

But, I guess we can`t ask retailers to comment about such things here directly. ;)
Though I believe that the retailers should drop Clevo a line or two.
"We wan`t to be able to use our 2920XM"!
