I've heard mixed opinions about Hybrid HDD's, and was just wondering if the one offered for the P150HM was any good? Does anybody that has a hybrid HDD notice a difference in performance at all compared to standard HDD's?

yes a lot!!! all the hybrids are pretty much seagate momentus xt with 4gb nand flash. but it sells for $180 with resellers and $149 with amazon. I would say wait a few months and get the next version xt2 due next month or when the price falls maybe q2 2012 :)

I've been running a Momentus XT Hybrid in my old Inspiron 1520 for half a year and it gave it new life. It cut my Vista boot times to 30 seconds, which I was totally surprised by. Start-up for a handful of common programs also was greatly sped up. It impressed me enough to convince me to put a real SSD in my next laptop. As for problems, I've had none in my six months with it so far.

There was an online Black Friday deal for a 500GB Momentus XT that took it down to the price it was at when I bought it ($90). I don't think it's still available though.

The hybrid drives make a nice compromise between an SSD and an HDD. You get the size of a hard drive (500GB), but also 4GB of flash memory. They automatically cache frequently used applications and files to the flash so that over time it should get faster and faster :)

The downside of course is that it's very limited in flash memory, so not everything will get that boost. It's also not quite as fast as a true SSD would be.

I have one and some have 2 hybrids in every single laptop I own. On my Toshiba X500 I notice enormous decreased boot times over the stock 500GB 5400RMP drive. I would have to say the boot time till Windows is useable is cut by well over 50%. Too bad they dont come in 1TB size as that would be a dream come true for those of us waiting for the SSD price/size to drop to reasonable levels.

They are coming out with a 750GB version soon with 8GB NAND. Better, though not quite your 1TB. :)

Thanks for the reply guys, I should be ordering a P150HM from Malibal within the next three weeks. I'm not going to bother waiting for Ivy Bridge as my current laptop is on its deathbed (HP DV6000, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Intel GMA 950, Intel T1350 1.86GHz Single-Core). I think this thing is like 5 or 6 years old now, so I'm ready for something new. Also, I'm looking to get into PC gaming and I hope the 6990m will be a great introduction for me. Still though, there isn't actually anything wrong with this laptop. Everything but the touchpad still works flawlessly. Sometimes the touchpad just won't detect my finger, but oh well.
