My new P170HM just arrived, however, after I installed my own win7 professional. The laptop seems to have random shut downs, all my drivers are from malibal. It would even shutdown during safe mode. Havent shut down during gaming,....Any ideas anyone?

Download and run hwmonitor check temps and voltages. Run some stress test(Intel burn, and loop heaven) report back your temps after 10 minutes.. report back your voltages as well.

Try Changing your Power plan to High Performance and on the "advanced options" of the plan, modify:

    Suspension = 0 (never)
Hard drive = Never turn off
    Hybrid suspension = Disabled

    Hope it works for you.

The temps are all below 50
and the volts are constant 0.95V for 6990M
Battery Voltage are also constant 14.8V
the temperature for CPU are never above 65 even during stress test while normally its 45
The tmpeuratre GPU are never above 55

    Intel Burn:
    Time\\Speed\\Results
    190.203\\13.8933\\3.487393e-002
    101.341\\26.0758\\3.487393e-002
    81.549\\32.4044\\3.487393e-002
    83.713\\31.5669\\3.487393e-002
    83.256\\31.7399\\3.487393e-002
Passed it with it being completely stable

Error Event Log shows nothing except that the computer has shutdown without notice.

And I have already checked the power plans, thanks for all these advices though~~

    It physically turns off?

Can I get the BIOS / EC version from your BIOS screen?

Also I would start removing memory to see if it will stop shutting down, that has been our #1 fix to that issue (Bad memory random shutdowns)

Are you certain it's not going to sleep or suspend? If it's only during idle, that sounds like what it would be.

Might have set the idle voltage too low?

I'm just extrapolating from the fact that while the GPU is in use, it doesn't shut down at 3D clocks,

but is unstable at 2D clocks.

How random is this? Does it happen every day when idling? How long does it idle before it shuts down? Has it ever happened while you were watching it? Do you have your display set to turn off after some time? You are using the 750GB 7200rpm HDD, and not an SSD? Maybe run memtest for am hour to see if any errors appear. Does it boot itself back on, or does it stay turned off? I hope you can figure this out.

It would shut down during ramtest, and it happens everyday, ranging from 5 mins or 4 hours. Doesnt happen when I am constantly using it. My display is set that it never turns off. It would stay shut down. Thanx shishkabob~~~ hope this mite give u an idea~~ hahaha...

Did you ever figure out the problem???

I also have windows 64bit professional on my 8150, and I get the exact same error "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown."

This doesn't always happen and it's very infrequent, but whenever this happens, it occurs when the computer goes to sleep. I ran WhoCrashed and it tells me that some sort of "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" occurred, so I believe it has something to do with one of the drivers failing to transition into sleep mode correctly.

I just simply leave my computer in high performance mode or shut it down now since I have no reason to put it to sleep, but it would still be nice to figure out the problem.

    >You are using the 750GB 7200rpm HDD, and not an SSD?

Just curious as to what you mean by that. I was thinking of getting a P170HM with only the 750GB hardrive for now until I have the money and prices drop a bit on SSD's. Is 750GB 7200rpm HDD a bad idea?
