After a few weeks of reading hundreds of forum posts, reviews, asking questions, and arguing with myself about what I wanted I'm happy to say that I have finally made up my mind and placed an order. With a 5-7 day build time and the standard ground shipping I'm hoping to have my new laptop in my hands by Sep. 7th. I read a great review of the P170hm by HTWingnut and many helpful posts by others, but I haven't seen a review of any P170hm's with 3D so I'll do my best to write up a short review after I get it. For now, I am going to try my best to remain patient and wait for my laptop to arrive without bugging Malibal every couple of days for an update. :D

I would switch from the intel 6230 to the killer 1102. They are both 2X2 antennaes however the killer has much better software. There is some good write ups and reviews on the forums here.

I would of loved the Killer card, correct me if I'm wrong Malibal, but on the P170hm bluetooth isn't built in if the Killer card is selected. On the X7200 the bluetooth and wifi are seperate cards so you can get both Killer and bluetooth if that's what you want.

You are correct, you cannot get Bluetooth with the Killer cards on the P170HM.

    Nice one! :)
Malibal is XTU enabled in your clevo bios with the 3D and gtx580m, so that the i7-2920XM can be properly overclocked? Looking for that myself... ;-)

That's a good point. Nice review too. I'm always streaming netflix, downloading movies, and playing mmo's. The Killer nic would be a good addition. I can pick up a cheap usb bluetooth adapter from newegg to solve the bluetooth issue.

I swore to myself that I wouldn't place my order till I was 100% certain in what I wanted so that I wasn't making changes after the fact, but here's the first one. Hopefully the only one too.

IIRC, XTU is only enable when you have a Sager BIOS installed on your system.

After some email exchanges with Malibal it appears as if there will be no way for me to Overclock this cpu.
Although it's disappointing, I'm going to stick with this configuration since I play cpu intense flight sims and other tasks and want the 120hz screen for my small but growing 3D blu ray collection. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that an unlocked bios for the P170HM3 is released at some point.

Hi, you can only overclock the CPU on our Nine X7200 and Satori P170HM, but not the P170HM3 3D Version. :(

Unless something has changed since I researched it last, you're right. But garbage collection works good if you log out and leave the pc on overnight once or twice a week. For me, that works out ok as I always set my updates to automatic download and install every Sunday night so my pc and laptops are already left on overnight once a week.

Yes, the CPU can be overclocked if put in a notebook that has an unlocked BIOS. BUT, the people at Clevo decided for some reason not to use the same unlocked BIOS that is in the P170HM in the P170HM3. I have seen a few desktops with overclocked CPU's and NVIDIA 3d vision and they don't have any issues so I have no idea why Clevo decided to do this.

Sorry, just read my message and it seemed rude. I was just wondering because you didn't have the usertitle under your name as retailer. Now you do. Great to see someone being as active as Justin on the XoticPC side.

Hey Alex (or Justin) does Sager offer the XTU bios for their 3D version of the NP8170?
(I know the bios is not compatible, just curious).

I also ordered a 3D 580M P170HM from Malibal last week only with the lower i7-2630QM and the 500GB SATA Hybrid (I'll upgrade to SSD later when price per Gb is better).

It's been 7 "business days" and I was hoping it would have been shipped by now. :/ Also Malibal is currently offering a free 120Hz 3D display now after I ordered. I wonder if I can get a price-match since it hasn't shipped yet.

Unfortunately I have cancelled my order. Because of overclocking not being available any more on the 3d due to the instability issues caused by the extra power draw of the 120hz lcd and the overclocked extreme CPU I need to decide which of the two I want the most.
