Both claim to custom build their laptops in-house from clevo shells, putting in high quality of customer service and quality control. However Myth seems to be more pricey....
Anybody purchased their laptop or have opinions from/about these re-sellers and can share their input?
I am trying to decide who to go for...
Thanks.

I chose not to purchase my computer through Malibal because when I called to ask pre-sales technical questions they were not friendly and didn't seems to know or care much about the laptop. I will say that I like the badging on their Clevo rebrand more than Sager, but it was not worth me risking based on my first impression.
I can't speak to Mythlogic. -

I believe mythlogic is more expensive because they put more work into ensuring that the laptop that they send you works at 100% of what it should. That requires extra tests and stuff like that.
-
but aren't sagers already reliable? so isn't that redundant and just burning cash?
-
Myth buys clevo parts ( from some guys ) then they assemble those parts to become complete laptop . Same thing with Sager , sager buys Clevo parts and assemble those parts to become complete laptop .
Myth have their own QC test , Sager have their own QC test . which one better ? i dont know
Sager is cheaper than myth because of economies of scale i think
with Myth you can get more choice ( RAM , HDD , Screen , etc ) and i think you also can ask specific things like "Can help do this benchmark before you send it to me ? "

Of all of the clevo builders and resellers malibal currently seems to have the lowest price. they are also based out of las vegas, which may or may not be closer to where you live. for me it is.

didnt know that thanks for the info.

All of our notebooks go through extensive testing to ensure that everything is in perfect working order (i.e. free from defective parts) before shipping out. If, for any reason, a customer receives a MALIBAL notebook that is not in perfect working condition (free from defective parts), we will replace the notebook with a Brand New MALIBAL notebook at no cost to the customer. This is our 100% Quality Assurance Guarantee!
Also, we don't use stickers on our notebooks. We only use the highest quality Electroform Nameplates. Electroform Nameplates have an elegant, jewel-like quality that cannot be obtained with other manufacturing process. They're like the Ferrari of nameplates.

Note: This Guarantee is for US & Canadian Customers Only.
Clarification: Under this Guarantee, an LCD would only be replaced at no cost to the customer under our normal dead pixel policy, since an LCD isn't considered defective unless it has more than 5 dead/stuck pixels. -

Hey Guys,
Just to re-iterate our stance. We get blank shells from the importers, we put our own stuff in there, and then do our own testing we don't sub-contract, outsource, or farm out any part. Which we are 99.99999% sure is more exhaustive and extensive than anyone else in the industry right now. Which we will have a video up of our entire process soon. It will be a timelapse though as no one wants to sit through THAT long of a video =) -

Nice
Looking forward to watch your video , since i need some nudge to decide -
Thanks Malibal and Myth.
Malibal is your check process before shipping to the consumer as intense as Myth? -

Hi, depending on the model, a replacement notebook can be shipped out as fast as 1-2 days after we receive the first unit back. So it's very quick!
-
if your nit pickey about details then go with myth, they offer color callibration, and as stated they dont outsource anything. that was a major deal breaker with me after dealling with cyberpowerpc.

"3 Year Ltd. Labor and 1 Year Parts Warranty with 24/7 Support (CA) Lifetime Support, FREE Shipping Both Ways & Serviced In Canada" -
Hi, I'm glad you brought that up - because yes... our 100% Quality Assurance Guarantee does apply to Canadian customers who purchase our new Canadian Warranty.
-
yay! electroform nameplates! I want 2
-
on your website it shows the inner lcd bezel having a malibal logo, but when i got my laptop it din't have one. is there a reason that it was discontinued?
-
And while we're talking about logos, is it possible to purchase a MALIBAL laptop without the exterior logo? A completely flat, black top would be nice.

Personally I went with Mythlogic, after months of arguing with myself and scouring forums...
The in-house testing & configuration tweaks and after talking with Eric up there sold it for me. They've also accommodated any questions I've had, threw in discounts (like others), and overall I'm very happy - as I wait on the 6990m.
Nothing against Xotic or Mali at all, it's just the in-house everything handled how you want, along with the extras, made it worth the cost (which was barely over $100 compared to other resellers, with the same config & assumed discounts).
Plus I'm a Michigan Wolverine fan <_<, at least when the gators aren't playing -
Monitor color calibration seems to be included in the price, but can you calibrate the monitor if the customer chooses not to have an OS installed?
I know desktop monitors can be calibrated internally, but is it the same with Laptop monitors? -

Malibal did have the best price...

Nearly all sellers will match prices, so find who you are comfortable with and start from there.

I went with Malibal, there website is really simple to use and allows you to save configurations under your account before purchasing the laptop. That way you can check out a laptop one day and go back to it another day without redoing the customization process. They also have great customer support. The main reason I chose Malibal was actually the Canadian warranty. They cover both way shipping.
-
I was actually very impressed by Malibal's responsiveness (they ninja my responses all the time!) I sent an email on a Sunday evening to Malibal and got a response back within 30 minutes. I've also been impressed with XoticPC responding to private messages.
If you think about it, the "coopetition" among them on this board has to be tough. They all want us as customers.
I honestly don't think there's a "bad" choice with the sellers that participate here. -
As most have said, all the resellers/builders/tomatoes/tomatos here on NBR are really great and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Personally, I went with Malibal for a few reasons. First of course is price. On the website, they had the lowest prices I could find. To then be told by other companies "We will price match!" is, in my opinion, a hollow response. If you will price match, why not just put your lowest price out there to begin with like Malibal? Sure you might catch a few folks who don't come to NBR and just go to your site, build a computer, and pay for it on the spot but to me it reeks of used car salesman tactics: advertise for the most you can get away with and if someone balks at your price and threatens to go elsewhere for lower prices, just tell them "We will match that price!". Bollocks, I say.
Second, Malibal seemed very accessible. Matt and company were all over the forums, answering questions and being visible. Granted plenty of other companies are on the forums too answering questions but Malibal just seemed quicker and more on the ball to me.
Third, Malibal was very responsive off-line. I asked about possible price reductions of the 6990 and if perhaps waiting a few weeks to order was a better tactic and they assured me that right up until build time, they would honor the lowest price. Sure enough, the 6990 went from $245 when I ordered it to $175 and Malibal gave me the lower price. I also went back and forth between a P150HM and a P170HM and Malibal was very patient and assured me that they would be happy to change my order. I called yesterday and completely changed systems from a P150HM to a P170HM and Matt was very patient and cooperative on the phone.
Again, perception is everything. One person might start researching a laptop, catch one of the company representatives on vacation and think the company as a whole is unresponsive. It all comes down to your perception and experiences with each of the resellers/builders here. I would encourage you to pick 2 or 3 that you really like and then call them and speak with them. They are all great guys and regardless of who you go with, any one of them is a great choice. -
I think they all do post their best prices - but prices fluctuate (sometimes hourly, as we all witnessed with the 6990M). Sometimes their costs are higher, or they get a deal on RAM.
It's not BS, it's a way to make you comfortable with your decision. You can choose the shop you like (because of logo, or warranty, or proximity) knowing price won't be an issue. -
Malibal also just listed a Matte screen upgrade for the P150HM for $40.00. It's not the 95% colour gamut one, but if you're not a photo/video editor, this might be the sweetest deal ever conceived.

Yes we did.

Just curious, what does 1 year parts and 3 year labor warranty mean?
If a component breaks (e.g. CPU), does fall under the parts or labor warranty? -
It means that after a year has passed, and the CPU breaks, you pay for the new CPU part, but labor (opening your laptop, taking off heatsink, installing new CPU, reapply thermal paste, place heatsink back on, close laptop) is free of charge.
-
c0nfucious is correct, for the first year of that warranty all parts and labor are covered... however for years 2 & 3, if you need service - you will have to pay for the parts, but you will still get the labor at no charge.
-
On the topic of warranty, do any of you guys, (xotic, mythlogic, malibal) have any options to extend the warranty for more years? Say i just went with the base 1 year parts and sometime during its active period decide i want more years of coverage could I upgrade?
-
Hi, you can upgrade our warranty within 90 days of your original purchase.
-
Also within 90 days of purchase.
-
I went with Mythlogic after some procrastinations as most companies have about the same pricing after discounts sans the international shipping but I don't think got the cheapest price (after international shipping) in the end due to Paypal is having problems doing the eCheck thing which causes me to pay in full for the laptop. This 3% is quite an amount as I could easily get a laptop cooler along with it or use it for other school usage as I'm not going to be based locally in my school.
And I realized that I might ordered too early as they came out with the Back to School Freebies shortly after I placed and paid for the order. Damn.
Though I would say the service is good as they do reply quite fast provided that I'm still awake during their opening hours. Whether its through e-mail or their online chat service. Very satisfied with the answers given and explanations laid out.
PS: Oh, and I'm new here even though I spent quite a few months lurking in searching for a laptop to bring with me for further studies. =) Hi everyone~~ -
I have been lurking on the forums for a while now, but I've read wonderful things about Malibal, so I recently purchased a NP8130 from them. Haven't been disappointed with the service yet, but we'll see as I go through the building/quality assurance/shipping steps.
-
thanks! -
So that means if in the event 6990M increases in price we will have to pay extra for it?
Thanks for the gifts though! It was real thoughtful for the students who are returning to school which provides them the almost complete package! -

If the price drops before you ship.. Good for you
If the price goes up before you ship.. Bad for us.. Good for you
