What does this mean? I see it in the sigs for Malibal members, but they seem to respond to some posts.
I am looking at a custom laptop and Malibal seems to have been well-recommended in the past. But, what is the no longer active deal?
I have been looking at xotic, malibal and mythlogic mostly. Xoticpc was the first reseller I looked at long ago, mythlogic is in my home state and malibal seems to have better pricing and lots of good press here in the past.
-
It's kinda shady. Seems they want folks to only use their forum. They're not going to be active here, anymore.
-
I'm speculating that it's due to the lack of control over what happens on a public forum. And sometimes that could be detrimental to business, or helping resolve issues. I suppose we can't be too upset about it seeing as most companies out there wouldn't go on a 3rd party forum to support users to begin with.
-
One of the Malibal rep's totally lost it and they decided to run away:

Hi, we are no longer proactively participating and posting on a regular basis, however - I've had to stay a couple extra days in order to explain our situation and reply to a couple other posts that were directed at our company.
I'm not sure how anyone can say that having our own forums or not participating on here is shady... by us not posting on here, that doesn't stop anyone from saying anything about us on NBR or any other site. By us not posting on here, that doesn't mean we can now do whatever we want... as some people seem to suggest - if one of our customers has an issue, then the appropriate means of contact is through our website.
I don't mind if someone wants to post about their experience on here, but also please contact us directly - because we might not see your post. I don't want anyone to think that starting a thread or making a post on here is a sufficient means by which to contact us - because it is not.
P.S. If others ask the same questions, can someone please redirect them to my other posts in the reseller forum, where I explain everything? Thanks. -
I feel rather bad towards Malibal, since in just the past week there's been like a million threads that have sprung up criticizing and trashing Malibal... and then both sides of the story are completely different.
i confuse -
If you were following either sides argument some customers have been having trouble with Malibal and Malibal stated what was going on and that some customers were asking for too much and pressuring them to give some people a ridiculous amount of discount among other problems. Both sides have there claim and its your choice to read both claims and make an educated opinion, yet here you are speaking out from hearing rampant rumors that has been floating around.
If you want to know what really happened go read the reseller forum about the argument between both parties and make a judgement for yourself, people need to stop posting on to this section of the forum when a reseller section was created for this purpose. -
-
Yeah, things got kinda messed up for them the past week or so. Glad they stayed to help the last guy though.
No need to get worked up guys. It is what it is.. If you'd like to participate in Malibal's forum, go for it. If not, don't worry about it. -
"It's kinda shady. Seems they want folks to only use their forum." Is that not a claim? A ridiculous one at that? -
Okay guys, we need to all calm down now. I hate seeing flame wars :c
-
-
-
Yes but first... Can we still get an NBR Member discount from Malibal? That's the real question here.
-
There is so much BS complaints about resellers in this forum that its strange that some reseller didn`t vent out earlier.
One thing is all the work required to take care of their customers through daily routine, like through phone and email, another thing is having to go to the forum every freakin day to defend themselves against all sorts of things. Their days are probably busy as it is without having to go through all of this internet drama that usually follow -
haha
-
-
Edit: Well, the discount is not quoted anymore in their sigs, so maybe not after all ... now you've all done it! -
No more "content/signature banners" either, so no official Malibal signatures. Loloh well
-
Yeah, I recall seeing a $50 discount for 5 posts on their forum. I'm not positive, but that's what I thought I saw/
-
haha well said, i was wondering the same thing :-D -
Malibal's pricing is not very competitive anymore. XoticPC is way to go for me..
-
Saw this coming a mile away after my first couple of experiences with them. Extremely unprofessional.
-
-
its quite shocking and sad to see how this went down. I clearly remember takng screenshots of malibals website just to make sure that I was gonna order the laptop with the specs I wanted. now after reading that meltdown thread my choice is now between xoticpc and mythlogic

Verb:
State or assert that something is the case, typically without providing evidence or proof.
Noun:
An assertion of the truth of something, typically one that is disputed or in doubt.
"It's kinda shady. Seems they want folks to only use their forum"
You are stating they want people to use only their forum and that it is a shady buisness practice. That is a claim, a false one at that.
Posts like these start false rumors and give a bad representation of people and businesses. -
"Used to make a statement or description of one's thoughts, feelings, or actions less assertive or forceful."
ROLL EYES. -
problem is, people seem to have these feeling of entitlement of being a customer guarantees them to be right 100%.
some people will find the tiniest negative they could and make an everest out of it to get free stuff and discounts.
if stores, businesses wont cater these idiots, no one would get that sense entitlement,
the person who invented "customer is always right" should be shot a thousand times over and tortured. -

Well this thread has derailed quite spectacularly.
-
I did not intend to make a statement or claim. I was stating my opinion.
With that said: MALIBAL *seems* shady. I would not do business with them because of the past several days. IMO. -
-
Link to an article about it -
This thread should be closed.

LOL, what is the meaning of IS.
I don't know, maybe I'm getting old and have seen too many meltdowns in my time; but for some reason that MALIBAL rep's responses didn't seem like a meltown in my books. A meltdown would probably involve more profanity and colorful insults. What I saw was more of an explanation which showed frustration and just wasn't held back the customary amount, but not to the level of Fukushima.
Anyway, why can't people just get along right? -
I hope Malibal can recover for all the negative publicity that it has been receiving it lately.
-
And they really shouldn't be getting it. They were extremely friendly to me, worked with me on discounts, and got everything through right away. Add to the fact that they, along with every other reseller, has probably been slammed with orders with the new systems and chipsets, they are probably goin nuts.

It is pretty common for companies to waiver back and fourth between participating in random public forums and not doing so for many reasons. One reason could be what happened above. Also it can just be they figured out it is a heck of alot easier to service customers better when they have a single place to do so. Once you start talking with customers on random forums it is kinda like feeding wild animals, they get used to it and do not bother going through the correct channels. Then you as a company start to see employee productivity going down as they are sent out to all sorts of different sites trying to manage the public image and service customers.
Of course the danger to not participating on outside forums is that you miss alot of chances to solve problems or just get your name out there. Really no different than companies that keep a facebook presense. In fact now days you almost need to feel sorry for companies, alot of customers expect a company will service them through any outlet they choose be that twitter, facebook, random forums like this, phone, email, chat. It has to be damn near impossible to keep that all up and organized. -
Guys, Malibal is leaving at their own discretion.
We aren't in the position to comment on his actions.
Malibal no longer active
