I'm in the market for a new laptop and at the moment the frontrunner for me is the Satori P170EM from Malibal. I'm new to this forum but in looking for reviews and opinions about this machine almost all the post I see are about the Lotus and I was wondering why that is? Are people just not interested in 17 inch screens or is something deficient about the Satori that I'm not aware of or is the Lotus a superior product?

You will find most people here like a max screen size of 15 in. for their gaming notebooks, and there are even some who want a 11-13 in. just as much.

Remember, the Satori is built on a Clevo, which is sold by many other vendors/resellers as well. People may not have bought one specifically from Malibal so you may try searching for comments on competitors versions of it.

The P170EM (17" clevo's) are great! For reference take a look at the specifications for both the 17" and the 15".

The 17 has an mSATA slot and 2 SATA III slots. where as the 15" has 1 (not sure about mSATA). On both models you can convert the optic drive slot with a caddy and add another HD.

I think the main thing about the 17's is that they're a little bulky and heavy in comparison so toting around the 17 is a little more cumbersome. Some are also persuaded by the price though it's not much.

Personally I enjoy the 17's more so than the 15's.

Take a look around and see what you sounds better to you :D

At the end of the day, they're the same system. All of the innards are the same like the motherboard, GPUs, CPUs, and I/O ports. The shell is just slightly different in design and obviously a little bit bigger.

I've had my hands on both and it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

I use 17" and I doubt I will ever go back to 15"

As others have said the size and price are probably the deciding factors for most people.

I personally went with the P170HM because I like the sleek metal cover and palm panels over the finish the Lotus has.

I used 18.4, now I have 17. I am def moving to 15 this year. I have a 27 inch monitor i connect my laptop to. I dont want the extra 2 pounds to carry with me.

I chose the 15" as a laptop should be somewhat portable... I can just fit it in my smallish backpack whereas the 17" is so big there is no chance.

The fact that you can get so much power crammed into the 15" is really amazing.

15" is sweet for gaming. I've cranked out almost 94 hours in BF3 and never once thought the screen was too small.

    Each to their own however.

Portability isn't really a huge deal for because looking for more of a desktop replacement than something mobile gaming.

Then it's really up to which form factor you like the best. The P170 17" and the P150 15" can be configured with the same internals, except that the 17" can handle one more hard drive (for a total of 2 + optical). This changes if you start looking at the P270 in 17", but for your case you're not looking at much.

for safe measure's even if it's stated the 29th, I'd look more into saying it begins the 29th meaning it might be a week later or more.

I was also hesitating between the P170 and the P150, as both are virtually the same price. I will go for the P150 however, as I like matte screens better and the option on the 150 is less expensive.

I was waiting for IB to come out to order too, until I saw that the AMD7970 will be available at the end of May... If you can justify the extra $100 to go from the 675 to the 7970 you should not be disappointed!

Is it really that much better? From the things I've seen the 670 and certainly the 675 can handle most games that are out there. Part of the reason i'm going this route is that the GPU is upgradeable down the road, because eventually all of these cards are going to be antiquated. At this point I am hesitant to pull the trigger on the extra hundred bucks for the 675 so to put an additional hundred on top of that the 7970 would have to be pretty incredible.
