So I'm looking for a new laptop and given my work and hobby requirements, I'll be getting some form of a 17.3" Clevo.
My general requirements will be the same no matter the manufacturer.
Some of the brands I am looking at are:
Mythlogic (like the included extras like monitor calibration, plus their upgrade policy)
OriginPC
AVADirect
HIDEvolution (like the custom engraving)
Mythlogic was originally at the top of my list for who to buy from, but google results of the forums make it seem like they've been going downhill. I'm not sure if it's just a result of people only posting when something goes wrong or what. Also, I would prefer whoever I buy from to have a 3-year warranty (which DQ's CyberPowerPC) and do their own service (instead of shipping to someone else). Any feedback/suggestions?

In general people tend to recommend HID because 17" desktop cpu Clevos run really hot, and in the U.S. only HID do proper delidding with conductive thermal paste.Aroc likes this. -
So I priced out my system on HIDEvolution and AVADirect, same processor, amount of storage & RAM, software, etc... (HID has no specified brand, AVA is Kingston and Samsung). The difference in price, however, is ~$400.
What would that extra $400 from HID get me that I couldn't through AVA? -
A P670 no it's not worth.
The P775 and P870 are pretty crap at stock. HID gives the Prema bios to uncripple the stock one, and also will delid the cpus, repaste, undervolt, OC etc... For you. You can see it says on their site all that.Aroc likes this. -
P775 with an i7-7700K processor

HID doesn't sell the P775 without a modifying the CPU by de-lidding it and applying liquid metal compound. There's good reason for this. The chassis' cooling system is not adequate for dealing with the heat that a desktop-class CPU and power GPU can muster. I say this as someone who had a P775 with an unmodified 6700K, and its temperatures were out of control. AVA Direct might be cheaper, but the peace of mind that HID provides by standing behind its modifications would be well worth it, IMO.
