This laptop is going to replace my desktop (E6600, 8800 GTS 640 mb, 2 gig RAM). Most likely the laptop it will get more score in 3dmark06 but not much (~10000 vs 9500). Most of time it will be plugged to my 24" LG but I'm still thinking to get 30" Dell. Mostly it will be used to play games (in fact only Red Orchestra!) but also some surfing and watching movies.
The reason why I decided to get laptop and get rid of my desktop is that I'm planning to go more often on LANs. Laptop is much more practical than my Antec P182.![]()
Because it was was ordered in group buy, I can't tell the final price.![]()
The order process with Kobalt went quite smoothly but not perfectly. It took long to get correct order confirmation (in fact the last one wasn't correct either). Partly it is my fault because I wanted change some components after my order. But I'm still happy I decided to pick Kobalt instead of MyCizmo. MyCizmo would have cost more but their customer service was very good (very fast replies for example). Altough MyCizmo's estimated delivery times were far too optimistic (June 10th!).
More info coming up when I get it!![]()

So it has arrived! Quite fast delivery by DHL: Thursday 18.00 GMT Heathrow airport -> Friday 12.00 @ my front door. Strangely enough, I was informed by DHL customerservice this morning that my packet was stuck on Leipzig and would arrive to Finland next week. Anyway, I'm glad that it arrived today because I need it at my work this weekend.
Here is some pictures:

Cong m8,hope you ll enjoy it

My goal is also to make my "command center" as wireless as possible. I've already bought Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution keyboard and mouse set. I'm thinking to get cordless headset but I'm sure what.
I'm a bit worried how hot will my laptop run... T9600 and 9800M GTX will make a lot of heat. Perhaps a laptop cooler is needed. I've been trying to find reseller for nzxt cryo lx. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find that would ship to Finland. European reseller would be only option because the cooler itself is very expensive and I don't want to pay any customs and taxes.
Also I'd like to point out that Kobalt offer OS and keyboard in Finnish too. That is for me a very important thing. -
Very nice, hope you enjoy it!
I'm about to order a Nexus from Kobalt, with the 9800M GT card. -
I afterall did get Vista Ultimate 64 bit. My mates from our gaming clan are thinking I'm mad because I wasted money for laptop which will perform only a bit better than my current desktop. With money I spent with this laptop I've could have bought very high end desktop. But I put more weight on portability.
-
I assumed you meant desktop, since you’re pretty much getting the best out there without it being SLI. You have a dream setup in a portable case, and I can’t wait to see what your test will be like. If I were buying, that’s what I would have chosen, GJ! -
I'm waiting on my Mojave M570TU from Kobalt as well
Congrats mate -
-
nice spec'ed rig.
tell us when you get it. -
Should get it on Friday!
It'll be used right away in heavy use at work. I'll write small review after I have tested it in games etc. -
welcome to the family buddy, you have one hell of a beast. im on the t9600 with 9800gt card and it's awesome. :-D
-
congratulations marder.
guess what........ its friday -
It has arrived! Updated the first post.
-
Congratulations!
That laptop doesn't look black? -
looks like your cat is the boss in your house -
It is mostly black but it has silver trim and alumium lid.
Problems has occurred... Keyboard has huge flex on right side of and buttons in that area makes noise like they would be loose...
And this machine is loud! But I suppose it was expected "feature".
EDIT:
The right side feels generally loose or misplaced... Oh man, this sucks big time. -
Some people have said that its relatively quiet. Unless it varies from machine to machine, I think that everyone has a different opinion on what level of noise is actually Loud. I'll give my opinion on Monday.
-
Things shouldn’t be loud; at least it doesn’t have to be. If you’re using windows XP with powermizer enabled, then things should stay quiet for sometime even starting a game. I’ve noticed if I boot to my Vista install, then things doesn’t stay quiet as long as it does with XP. The right side of my palm rest is also warmer with Vista, than it is when I boot to XP. I believe you have the option of using FN + (number) to quiet things, my default BIOS does an excellent job without the need to modify anything. If you’re one of the unfortunate ones to have keyboard flex, then have a thorough look at this thread. We seem to have found the culprit of that problem, and the fix should be moving a wire around and maybe exchanging a round head screw for a flat head screw.
Be sure to look at the pictures...

But I wait for answer from Kobalt before doing anything.
And I thought I wouldn't have to suffer from problems when I chose Clevo instead of Alienware! -
). It can stopped when press gently the area where the microphone is. And it will continue to make that noise soon after stopping the pressing.
I'm not happy at all ATM. -
Excellent point! -
OK, flex is now reduced. The keyboard cable stand was broken and two small plastic pieces were making the flex. Unfortunately there is still a lot of flex, much more than on right side.

3dMark06 score:
I suppose my laptop should score better. AC plugged, firewall and anti-virus off, no power saving. Am I missing something? -
Please post drivers
-
After updating chipset I got 10002.
Thats more like it!

Hi Marder, you should have had an email from Andrew this afternoon so I won't repeat what he sent you - however the chipset drivers won't have needed updating, just that 3DMark06 needs a reboot before it will give an accurate result. Your system is marked at just over 10,000 before it left us so your score is ok
-
Performance is now as it should be! -
Here are some thoughts after weeks ownership:
+ good performance
+ screen is quite good
+ Blu-ray drive is rather quiet
+ stays cool all the time
- loud
- keyboards flex on right side
- build quality isn't as high as I expected
- some parts of the chassis are made of very cheap looking plastic
Overall: I'm mildly dissapointed. I believe that I was expecting something very unique. After all, this machine isn't nothing but awesome performance in a laptop with average chassis. -
can I see 3D Mark06 result screen??? Please. -
Because you ask so nicely:
I didn't find the original picture from the second run but this is fromthat I just made. Nothing has been tweaked. -
thats more like it marder, nice score.
-
It might be few hundred points more if I would tweak a bit but perhaps later.
-
Hi,
thanks for the result screen and why it's showing CPU clock of 2879 MHz? You have T9600 right? Did you use Set FSB? Looks like you have 300 points more in SM 2.0 and 3.0 than I and 9800M GTX shaders are working on 1375 MHz...I think I stay with my 8800M GTX. Anyway you have great machine mate! Congrat!!! -
Yes, I have T9600 and I haven't changed anything on this laptop, everything is stock. CPU-Z shows that CPU it is running at 2792 MHz so I think 3DMark is just giving wrong number for some reason.
I can't see any reason why you should get 9800M GTX. Of course if you have money spend then by all means get it! -
You need to pack your notebook in a case or backpack, and ride on over to Best Buy. Take it out, and then start to compare it to what they have. Its a shame that they are shipping some of these units with keyboard flex, since it appears to be something they are not doing right in the first place.
These notebooks are built like tanks, and you can easily rest your palms on the palm rest without making a dent or screech (noise). The built quality is something to behold, but then again, you gave your opinion. You seem to be one that would be more attracted to cheap plastic covered with fancy paint, that durable high quality plastic that has nothing fancy to it at all with a professional look.
As you can see, the display border and the hinges are also made up from the same durable plastic. And of course, it gives you a sturdy feel opening and closing the unit without noise. All in all, this is one of the best built units on the market. Im not saying that just to be talking, I did take mine to Best Buy and compared it. -
I have had several different laptops from Asus, Acer, IBM, LG and Panasonic. My Asus U6S has been IMO the sturdiest of all. Of course Panasonic Toughbook has the literally tank proof chassis but I won't count it because it is in its own league. Although it too has its weak points and I have been able to break one of those...
Unfortunately I'm not living in country where I could find Best Buy.
