Hey all, so much for taking my time deciding what to get. I just received notice that I have been in fact accept to the summer semester of my program. I had already been accepted for a September start, which gave me plenty of time to get a new lappy. Well, now that I am starting next week (classes started May 8th), I'm in a pickle as I need a new laptop.

Do any of the resellers have the 7970M already? I'm willing to pay a premium to get a laptop A.S.A.P. Or am I stuck in a bind and have to resort to the 675M?

Any help from any reseller (preferably a Canadian one) would be appreciated. Please help a brother out. :( :( :(

Unfortunately, I don't think that's gonna happen. The 7970M card just isn't available yet. Companies like Sager and it's resellers are all too eager themselves to acquire and start shipping this GPU as soon as humanly possible, but wanting something sooner isn't going to make it so.

If you're desperate maybe Eurocom can help you, but don't expect that to come cheap.

you can get a basic GPU now and upgrade to a 7970 later on yourself.

In the end work is more important, and if you need it for that then get what's available now. It's still faster than what I have, and that runs almost everything in high.

sincerely studying is more important, talk to your reseller see what they can do for you, maybe put a low card in there or a loan type so that you can get the 7970m afterwards, be creative, its college, you are supposed to be creative

is the 675m any good? I'm think if i can strike a deal with reflex as in, get that then the 7970m for the difference?

doubt that will happen but worth a shot.

It's the fastest mobile GPU on the market, excluding the new 7970m (is that even out yet? if not, then the 675m is the fastest GPU on the market, period.)

yes, it is. but 580 was the fastest GPU before the 7970 comes around.

Mk, what games do you play? Do you run on max? I'm not to picky as long as it doesn't drop FPS constantly.

skyrim, civ5, diablo3. I actual choose 675 sli instead of 7970 CF with my new m18, as I think the newer GPU options always have some bugs and need a few weeks or month to sort out. you can always upgrade later if needed.

Just keep in mind that even a 675M will take at least a couple weeks to ship. I ordered from Reflex on May 2nd (specs in my sig) and I'm still in the 'Processing' phase. They told me that it could take 5-15 business days to process and build the laptop PLUS shipping.

At this point, I'd either accept that you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks or I'd consider a brand other than Sager/Clevo.

(That being said, I don't know if any of the other resellers can offer a more expedited shipment since I'm speaking only from what I've heard from Reflex. Good luck!)

Just speaking from personal experience, you might be able to get something relatively quickly from MALIBAL as they are offering some people who were waiting for the 675M cards for a while the 580M as replacements free of charge. I don't know how long those people waited, but if you contact the resellers you might get info on when you'd actually get your laptop. (note that the 580M is no worse than the 675M and normally costs a bit more)

On the topic of shipping times for 675m, I went with Mythlogic who were out of stock on the 675m, and within a week had it back in stock and reserved for me... (Order was placed on the 25th of April, so not very long ago)

It's going to depend on your reseller's stock and how quickly they order, etc.

For me, it was mostly because I don't need the extra performance of the 7970M and I was stretching my budget with the 675M as is. That and the fact that I'll hopefully get my order sooner since I won't have to wait for all those ahead of me that pre-ordered the 7970M.

But that's just my situation. If you are looking for cutting edge performance, it's almost definitely going to be worth the wait on the 7970M.

i say have a summer vacation just like most of the undergrads out there, enjoy the sun, have a blast, and start at september as scheduled earlier.

    its a win-win solution imo.

EDIT: darn didn't see at first that you already started and you're in canada. i'm quite familiar with its semester system and the lack of summer vacation thereof. don't you have old pc available while you wait? don't think it will be longer than next month for the 7970. rent or lease a laptop maybe? buy cheap one and resell them later?

If I were you I would get on the horn with some of the resellers that really advertise their upgrade plans such as Mythlogic and put them to the test! See what they would do for you to get a laptop in your hands immediately with even a 675m if necessary and then upgrade later at a hopefully discounted price to earn your business!!

can you really easily upgrade your gpu from nvidia to amd? especially the ones w/ different architecture? i know clevo based laptop supposedly very easy to upgrade even for average users, but i assume laptop gpu is not as simple as desktop ones.

Don't get too greedy, bro. Asking for a discount on top of having them deal with the old card for you?

Really? Did I say they would? Did I said they had to? Did I belittle them if they didn't?!

NO! It simply says that they are competitive with each other. I'm quite sure if you call around - your gonna find someone who is gonna help him out and not only that, not sock him full price on everything.

    Calm down, bro.
