First, i did a search through the forums to find no information on this topic. I know there is information on this topic because I've read about it before but I can't find it.

Anyways, when I was trying to turn off the touchpad ( FN + F1), I believe I had hit ALT + F1 which resulted in the max fan speeds. How do I turn the fans off or to lower the speeds? I've repeatedly hit ALT + F1 and nothing happens. I think its too loud to be honest and overkill if I'm just surfing the net.

    Thanks in advance.

It's Fn+1 to put it back to auto.

i'm having a similar issue. except the alt-1 button doesn't change the fan speed. it slows it down for a fraction of a second, but the fan goes back to full speed -- not because the computer to hot but because the fan setting just seems stuck.

    STOP CONFUSING YOURSELF~~~

    Sorry for the caps.. It's Fn + 1 not F1+1 or Alt-1......

Fn+1 toggles between Automatic vs Full Speed for the fans.

I think we only have control over the GPU fans using 3rd-party apps.
CPU side we dun have control. Correct me if I am wrong..

Sorry I'm new here, but why isn't the 8170-S1 offered anymore? I know it's just a discounted upgrade configuration of the standard 8170, but none of the resellers seem to stock them anymore. If the 8150-S1 is any indication, then an 8170-S1 could save me money on my desired configuration.
