just purchased one, it comes with DDr2400, will it accept faster ram?
If so, is faster ram noticeable?
Laptop includes i7-6700 3.4ghz + Nvidia 1020

What model is that? P870DM2? If so, XMP 3000MHz is Clevo's listed maximum allowed RAM, but 2400MHz is the highest accepted non-XMP speed.

hello, yes Sager 9872S is also known as Clevo P870DM2.
i need to read up to understand XMp then. So 2400 is highest nonXMP okay sounds good. thank you. -

oh ok.
so would a memory speed of ddr4-3000 w/latency 16
be faster than say ddr4-2400 with latency 14? -
in theory, all current clevo bios versions for that model (including premaMOD) allow for a max. of 3200 Mhz. but currently, 3000 Mhz is the fastest available, with 3333 Mhz sticks already announced but not available yet
latency is basically a "waiting time". so rule of thumb: less waiting time is better / faster! at same clock speed, say 2400 mhz, a latency of 14 is faster than a latency of 16 because the sticks dont "wait" as long to process new data.
rule of thumb: clock speeds are more important than latencies! so 2666 mhz CL16 is faster than 2400 Mhz CL14! although this becomes relative when u compare large differences in latencies. thus, 2400 Mhz CL12 could actually be faster than 2666 Mhz CL20 -
Also look for RAM that has different timings, like Kingston's 2800MHz is 15-15-15-36 for laptops, but G.Skill's 3000MHz is 16-18-18-43, making the Kingston the faster overall set.
Eh we're probably going way over OP's head though. But holy meowmix, does good RAM help. I upgraded my RAM recently courtesy of Luna being Luna, and holy... the difference is insane. I legit gained like 30fps in Evolve Stage 2, far less other games. -
well i wasnt talking about where and when such ram upgrades DO make a difference, just where the higher bandwidth and overall performance lies
and ha, i actually noticed ur upgrade! was about time!im still trying to finetune my sticks to 2200 mhz, unfortunately 2400 is out of the question...
in any case, faster ram really helps in minimum fps gaming! and overall system snappiness
Max Ram Speed for Sager 9872 laptop?
