Hey guys and gals, well after my 16F2 experiments I have decided to move onto the P150EM. The 16F2 was great, but incapable of moving the 7970M beyond stock.
New build (Kali 2) will have the following parts:
P150EM barebone
OEM 3610QM
8GB 1600mhz DDR3 (flashed to 1866mhz speeds)
7970M 2GB GDDR5 (supporting enduro technology)
1080P LED backlit 15.6" display
64 GB M4 SSD (boot) 256GB M4 SSD (Data) (Blank mSATA port for now)
External bluray drive (I don't use it much)
Intel 6230 Wireless + Bluetooth
Backlit keyboard
Look forward to building it![]()

Awesome, will be good having you hang out here!

Nice spec Meaker.
I thought you had your 16F2 7970M undervolted and nicely overclocked though? -
Ah, well... Welcome to the club!
And yes... I still DO consider myself part of THIS clan!

Also are there any tweaked bioses or like out at the moment? Any particulars I should be aware of? -
I think people are still waiting for the 680M before doing anything extra ordinary for the 7970M.
btw, any reason to go with the 3610QM instead of the 3720QM (I'm sure with the correct BIOS it'll be easier and higher overclock-able than the 3610QM)
Also, any reason for not going for the Gamut screens? -
-
Edit: Sad to see you go, enjoy the new beast though! -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
One comes, one goes, welcome Meaker
I'm moving to MSI scene instead; after we won the petition I've started to make things move. I still need to stay away a bit from Clevo.
Enjoy your stay, non the less -

Any extra budget and I would have gone for the 3720qm, but I did not and I was not willing to drop down the others to make way. -
I'm saving my pennies for an NP9150 too. If things go as planned should be able to order in a week or two.
NP9150
15.6" 1080p 95% gamut matte
i7-3610QM
Radeon 7970m 2GB GDDR5
8GB DDR3 1600*
Samsung 830 256GB SSD (OS / apps)*
WD SiliconEdge Blue 256GB SSD (storage / games, in optical drive slot)*
Intel 6300 Wi-Fi
Backlit Keyboard
Win 7 Ultimate x64*
External USB 2.0 Blu-Ray*

I need bluetooth for my mouse and I don't want to faff with a dongle hence my wireless choice.
-
How much of a performance increase are you expecting from just switching the platform?
Edit: Any other reasons you decided to switch? -

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
So basically im giving in my HM in favor of the MSI with 7970m equipped. For now ill call it a day and be happy with it
In the future, who knows.. -

I would luv to know where you purchased the parts from - if that's ok?
I didn't realise that we could order the individual parts here to the UK for self assembly
I imagine it would be a decent saving! -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I was tempted because with this laptop im able to oc the cpu as well, acting on the BCLK. Plus, it had the 7970m installed as a bonus.
This has been a long deal, lots of talk involved, but i think i made a great choice. -

I miss the pubs there. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Very rainy at the moment lol.
I have ordered mine from notebookbarebone.de (owned by notebookguru.de) but if you want to keep it all British then use pwnpcs.co.uk Pau1ow is on here from them and you can strip everything off from their configs. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Scratch that, PwnPCs made me an offer I could not refuse.
I'll be getting it from them. -
Hey Meaker, so far the best price I have had by far is Box.co.uk - they seem to be FAR cheaper than anyone else when called for a quote and asked for a best price. I would really like to know how you got on with PwnPCs, Scott seemed like a really nice guy, just a little too expensive unfortunately.
-
. Not as bad as Glasgow though.
But summers there are beautiful (if it doesn't rain that is) LoL. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
When I configure it in a similar way they seem almost the same price wise tbh. I'd stick with the company that has a forum presence.
-
@Meaker, i have the same cpu/gpu setup like you and i think it's working together just fine. if you figure out how to OC the 7970 on the clevo please let me know
I'm currently stuck on msi afterburner and it won't show me any Speeds after changing all the settings (slicks guide)
have fun! -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
My 2 cents, go for pwnpcs. Hassle free, awesome support, fast and reliable.
Worth every penny you pay more, without doubts.
Either Scott or Pau1ow, both awesome persons and very kind! -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Heyyyy welcome to the family
Though I weep for the Clevo machine that is going to be victim to your evil machinations! (More power?? You're probably going to overclock the heck out of this thing)
Mr. Mysterious -
Welcome to the Clevo/Sager forums Meaker!
I am sorry to hear the experiment with your laptop did not pan out the way you wished it would. I still give you props for testing it out.
I look forward to seeing what you will do with one of these excellent machines once you get a hold of it. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Ha! No pressure then guys..... First focus will be the 7970m......
-
I might follow by the end of this month
(Depends if MSI slaps that 680M in the GT60) -
Mr Meaker, welcome to our beloved humble abode, even though i don't have mine yet, i'm really excited to see what you can do with your rig!
P.S your first goal should be to best Halogod's specs. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Heh, every card is different so we will see.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Turns out the unit is out of stock so i will be waiting another week *sigh* looks at dusty wii..... I may be cranky for a few days on the forum so try not to post anything stupid guys, i may not hold back very well.
-
Looking forward to more of your scientific experiments
-
Welcome Meaker
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Lol, well they are working hard to get my system asap so hopefully i can get testing!
-
You promised to buy GTX 680M so we could be benching buddies
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No lol, i said you could bench against my 7970.
-
You're buying the 680m cloud?
I'll be glad to bench my new card WITH your new 7970m, not against
This ain't no fight. -
I'm considering 680m... will let you know what I do. I'll be happy to do dualing benchmarks.
-
Do you have infinite money? -
I'm just concerned by the heat issues and mentions of system stalling or lagging. Although not sure if 680m will be any better.
I'll likely go with 7970m though after reconsidering the cost, and may end up going with a second Samsung 830m 256GB and run in RAID 0.
Meaker joins the clevo/sager side.
