Hey guys and gals, well after my 16F2 experiments I have decided to move onto the P150EM. The 16F2 was great, but incapable of moving the 7970M beyond stock.

New build (Kali 2) will have the following parts:

    P150EM barebone
    OEM 3610QM
    8GB 1600mhz DDR3 (flashed to 1866mhz speeds)
    7970M 2GB GDDR5 (supporting enduro technology)
    1080P LED backlit 15.6" display
64 GB M4 SSD (boot) 256GB M4 SSD (Data) (Blank mSATA port for now)
External bluray drive (I don't use it much)
    Intel 6230 Wireless + Bluetooth
    Backlit keyboard

Look forward to building it

    Nice spec Meaker.

I thought you had your 16F2 7970M undervolted and nicely overclocked though?

Also are there any tweaked bioses or like out at the moment? Any particulars I should be aware of?

    Not yet.

I think people are still waiting for the 680M before doing anything extra ordinary for the 7970M.

btw, any reason to go with the 3610QM instead of the 3720QM (I'm sure with the correct BIOS it'll be easier and higher overclock-able than the 3610QM)

Also, any reason for not going for the Gamut screens?

Doubt it, almost any BIOS can be unlocked if you have the knowledge and right tools. . . I know Clevo used to use Phoenix BIOS but I think they are using AMI now. AMI is much more friendly IMO.

Edit: Sad to see you go, enjoy the new beast though!

One comes, one goes, welcome Meaker :)
I'm moving to MSI scene instead; after we won the petition I've started to make things move. I still need to stay away a bit from Clevo.
Enjoy your stay, non the less :)

    One word: Price.

Any extra budget and I would have gone for the 3720qm, but I did not and I was not willing to drop down the others to make way.

How much of a performance increase are you expecting from just switching the platform?

Well our "adventure" made some great steps forward the right direction - but - a friend of mine proposed me a deal to "swap" our laptops.
So basically im giving in my HM in favor of the MSI with 7970m equipped. For now ill call it a day and be happy with it :)
    In the future, who knows..

    Hey Meaker,

I would luv to know where you purchased the parts from - if that's ok?

I didn't realise that we could order the individual parts here to the UK for self assembly :)

I imagine it would be a decent saving!

well its an msi 16f2, sandy.
I was tempted because with this laptop im able to oc the cpu as well, acting on the BCLK. Plus, it had the 7970m installed as a bonus.
This has been a long deal, lots of talk involved, but i think i made a great choice.

Very rainy at the moment lol.

I have ordered mine from notebookbarebone.de (owned by notebookguru.de) but if you want to keep it all British then use pwnpcs.co.uk Pau1ow is on here from them and you can strip everything off from their configs.

Hey Meaker, so far the best price I have had by far is Box.co.uk - they seem to be FAR cheaper than anyone else when called for a quote and asked for a best price. I would really like to know how you got on with PwnPCs, Scott seemed like a really nice guy, just a little too expensive unfortunately.

I am sorry to hear the experiment with your laptop did not pan out the way you wished it would. I still give you props for testing it out.

As long as I'm working, infinite income, yes. :p

I'm just concerned by the heat issues and mentions of system stalling or lagging. Although not sure if 680m will be any better.

I'll likely go with 7970m though after reconsidering the cost, and may end up going with a second Samsung 830m 256GB and run in RAID 0.
