What's your opinion of resellers' option to downgrade from two 4gb DIMMs to four 2gb DIMMs? Note that both give you 8gb of RAM, but the 4x2 option fills up all the DIMM slots, making it more difficult to upgrade in the future. In doing so, you save $50.
The real question is: For gaming, will the memory bottleneck the system and require an upgrade from 8gb during the life of the system (2-3 years, average)?

Should be fine with 8GB for 3-4 years. Honestly, if I had the option to downgrade to save $50 when I ordered, I would have done it.

Gaming, probably not. Video, audio and/or photo editing, possibly. I decided against the downgrade, because I would like to future-proof my laptop. Downgrading means all four of my DIMM slots will be occupied, and if I want to upgrade, it means I have to remove two sticks of RAM which will be useless once I upgrade.

I might do it if I can find a good deal for RAM on Newegg or that ilk.

When I've done some configurations I've always downgraded. $50 could be used toward a nicer screen, Killer wireless, etc IMO. 8GB I'll be happy with for a long while.
Memory downgrade saves $50 - Worth it?
