The 8150 comes shipped with DDR3-1333 (PC3 10660) RAM. I assume there aren't any issues using DDR3-1333 (PC3 10666) RAM as add-on? If that's true, for anyone interested, Newegg has 8GB (2 x 4GB) on sale for $65 G.Skill RAM
It's a shell shocker though, only good until 12 pacific time. I think I'm going to pick up a set or two.![]()

Yeah.. I picked a set up for $40
I received a coupon for first time purchase on an e-mail that I received newsletters from Newegg. $25 off my "first purchase" with the new e-mail lol.
16GB of RAM! -
hmmm... how accessible are the 2 empty ram slots on it? I'd have to consider doing this too even though I have no idea what I would need 16g of ram for...
-
I don't think I will use 16GB of RAM too, but for $40 that's too cheap to say no lol.
From what I heard there are 2 slots under the keyboard which are harder to access and 2 slots that are easily accessible by popping the bottom cover.
Sager started shipping the 2 RAMs installed under the keyboard for awhile so people can access the bottom ones easier. Not sure where yours is installed though. -
The two empty slots are right under the bottom panel. Starting with the new shipments Sager is putting the preinstalled RAM under the keyboard to leave the easier to access slots empty.
I wonder how much I can knock off my order to drop the 4GB of RAM it comes with and just provide my own 16GB. (I doubt I'd see any huge jump from 12GB that I'm doing though..) -
I think I can actually get this shipped to myth and they would install it for me, however, never used gskill how are they? Myth says they are using crucial for the 8g I originally configured.

Maybe I can run some stuff with RAMDisk since I have that many unused RAM
Now just waiting for the beast to arrive! (The Laptop)
G.Skill is a pretty decent brand name. They have been here for awhile. I think many gamers like them too. Crucial is known for stability. -
Yeah I have used Crucial before, but mixing batches is never the best idea so I'd have to call up myth if I want to do this... ugh too much work, even though I could get much more for my money potentially this way... 4 hours to decide!

for canadians out there:
Newegg.ca - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ
These will 100% work in the 8150 and 8130 right? I'm thinking for the price I should get some too...
If I end up not liking my laptop I would return it for an Asus or MSI (Blah all this waiting I started to watch videos of my old G53JW order doing bad company) -
DDR3 1333 is the module I use, I use Super Talent with Micron Chips.
The G-skills are compatible with the 8150 and the 8130. -
) You can get PC3-10600, PC3-10660, and PC3-10666. From what I know, they're all the same DDR3-1333 rating and will all work together just fine in systems. Sager just happen sot use the PC3-10660 as standard and there just aren't that many modules out there at that spec. I think newegg sells 5 total, only 1 of those being a 4GB module.
These should work fine. I ordered 1 set. Might order another if Malibal says I can get my machine without RAM, but realistically, 12GB is way overkill anyway. My i7 desktop with SLI 470's only has 12GB of RAM and it works just fine. You really only need more if you plan to run multiple simultaneous VM's or something. -
malibal should be able to ship it without ram..
Saw the same thing in the shell shocker deals thing just a second ago. Too bad I've already got the crucial ram bought an sent to myth..
Lol, idk what I'm gonna do with 16gigs of ram? I ordered cuz I was in the state of mind of "go big or go home" -
^ Same here! For only $40 and 16GB why not?
-
I just picked these up off newegg.ca
I hope they don't fail =] -
like literally what does a user do with all that ram? what is the benefit of having it?
-
You can run 4 VMS that are effectively each as powerful as an old core 2 duo box? I don't know
-
should yeild better performance.. up to a point i suppose. probably wont be noticing much difference over 8gb right? there would be some exceptions like when using VMS's
does it mean less writing/trasfers to/from the HD? might save some wear on SSD's? -
Even with 8g you shouldn't really be using the page file much... and things that you haven't touched for a while that go to page before your physical memory is full will still do that if you upgrade to 16, so I would say unless your routinely maxing 8g, there's no difference...
I've maxed 64gb memory servers with a few big JVMs before though... -
Vms...?
Jms...? -
Hey guys, I'm getting the NP5160 and I want to save money on the RAM upgrade (from 4 GB to 8 GB is +$70) by buying a stick of this and installing it myself (so, 4 GB stock plus 8 GB bought = 12 GB). Is this compatible with the NP5160? Will there be anything special I need to keep in mind because of the dual channel thing? Do I just fill the empty 2 slots with the 2 new sticks and I'm done? Thanks guys, sorry I'm not very good at computers!

Like I said in page 1, I received a $25 off coupon from Newegg on my first purchase with an e-mail address that I never created an account for.
-
Got me some! Thanks!

From the tech specs:

Uhm.. But I received that coupon a few days ago in the e-mail that I receive newsletter from Newegg. Not sure if you can still get on that deal.
