I might sell my current Clevo P870DM-G soon and get a Eurocom Sky X9, but this time, with a desktop 980 GTX instead of Dual 980M SLI.

    My questions are as follows:

    1) If I buy a Eurocom X9 now, will it come with the PREMA BIOS or not yet? If not, what is the release date?

    2) What is the fastest RAM that will work without giving me headaches out of the box? I am only interested in a 64GB setup so maybe a 2400MHz kit or a 2666 MHz kit? I just don't know which one to get. If you can please tell me which one is compatible and with a link to purchase I would really appreciate it.

    1. No, it will not - @Prema can tell us when he thinks it will be released to Eurocom, so I will defer a response on this to Prema. At this very moment, it cannot come with it pre-installed because they don't have it yet as far as I know. I am still doing a RC test and it looks good to me. I need to downgrade to GTX 980 to confirm it works as well as it does with 980M SLI. Also, talk to Eurocom and find out how much extra with the unlocked enthusiast BIOS and vBIOS. The firmware is free, but having a warranty to cover the use of it is not. (Clevo warranty does not apply to firmware mods, so they guarantee it and charge a fee to cover that, if I understand the situation correctly. So, talk to them first.)
    2. Stock BIOS, not sure, since there is zero access to memory settings. It will either boot or it will not. The BIOS supports manual settings, but has a limited SPD table. It could vary by brand and CL rating whether it will boot or not. Find out from the guy below what he bought. Looks like it did not work at first and now does.

what a bummer :( I thought I could have the Prema BIOS sooner but oh well, at least if I buy a Eurocom I know I will receive it first

As for the RAM, what I will do is tell them to order that RAM for me and test it to ensure it's working.

Seriously, just wait a while... You will get horrible service from them and pay like $1000 more for the same machine... Honestly, a BIOS is making you think it's obsolete? Get a grip man!

It will be a Eurocom but I'll buy it from HIDevolution, my trusted re-seller.

Negative, I'll sell it at a small profit and buy it again.

In Dubai they don't have such high end machines, this will be a dream machine to an enthusiast here. Something they cannot get their hands on. And since I have a 3 year Global Warranty with free shipping from Dubai to the US back and forth, it keeps the buyer at an ease of mind when it comes to warranty claims.

I think it would be helpful for some members on here to understand a little more about the term "reseller" so that there's not any confusion.

A reseller is someone like XoticPC or Powernotebooks who resell Sager laptops. The laptops are built by Sager and branded Sager,

It may be that HID buy Clevo chassis from Eurocom, or that their laptops direct ship from Eurocom but this doesn't make them a Eurocom reseller. This is an important differentiation and I expect @Prema would also like people to understand what they will be getting and from whom. If the Prema BIOS are available through Eurocom first then I wouldn't have thought that non branded chassis which may originate from Eurocom would also have the full Prema BIOS. I don't know, just saying that it's not clear.

I see, I am not very sure of the technicality of these terms. All I want is a P870DM-G laptop with a BIOS that allows me to tinker with the laptop.

I know XMG's BIOS is much better than the stock BIOS from CLEVO but I was disappointed when I emailed them 4 days back asking if they could give me their BIOS, not that I expected they would, but they didn't even reply so first impression wasn't very good. Hence why I want a Eurocom lappy with the Prema BIOS on it so I won't have to worry about when I will get it as this laptop that I own right now as it stands, it has 0 issues, but it's stripped of the beauty it could be with an unlocked BIOS.

    The Sky X9 is a 870DM.

What's different enough for you to want a Eurocom, besides getting the 980?

just the BIOS, and maybe wanting to try a single Desktop 980 this time round instead of my 980M SLI. While the 980M SLI Benchmarks are much better. I feel that in real world usage scenarios like in games, unless a game is properly optimized for SLI, the desktop 980 always has the edge.

The Eurocom press release for CES 2016 said to expect the unveiling of an SLI 980 desktop laptop, perhaps wait for that frame / model to be announced?

I get a feeling that was a typo. On that press release, the 980 SLI is listed under the Sky X9. So unless they find a way to retro-fit the 870DM to somehow cool two desktop 980s...that was just a typo.

No problem, I wasn't aiming any comments at you - just wanted to clarify some things. I think you must have contacted the European office as I work in the UK office and had not seen any requests come in like yours. You can download our BIOS on the website and it's freely avaialble!

Maybe they just updated it since you looked, but under Sky X9 it says correctly:
VGA Technology: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (N16E-GXX); or 2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980

The quote for the 980 SLI isn't under any specific listed laptop model. The quote I gave in the previous post is still the same, here it is again with more context:

    "Dec 18, 2015

Come by booth #20318 anytime during the show or book a time to meet a Eurocom technology expert."

It could be a typo, but I think Eurocom realize the importance of accurately distinquishing between a 980m SLI and a 980 SLI.

Now that I think about it, it makes no sense to go through the trouble of announcing 980m SLI laptops as being there, as those have been around for long time - nothing new - but a 980 SLI is new and highlighting in the press release is timely.

The ppl typing up these press releases may not understand the significance of 980 vs 980M. I'm with the others -most likely a typo. Either way, we'll find out in a couple of weeks. ;/)

ohhh I didn't know that!! thanks a lot for the tip.

I just flashed the BIOS successfully but I didn't see the advanced chipset features like I did on some other guy's XMG laptop where you get to control the clock speeds, multipliers, etc...

I'm pretty sure a 980 SLI would require a whole new chassis. The cooling and power requirements are probably in excess of what that chassis can provide. I highly doubt you can just stuff a second 980 in there.

I would expect a new model would be required for that.

I agree, as it stands, the heat factor on this laptop is on the edge, it doesn't crash on stock speeds but it isn't cool either. Like it's just fine, adding another full fledged 980 will make things probably unstable with the current chassis/cooling

the games that support SLI are getting less and less, developers don't want to put any manpower into optimizing games for SLI, and the nVIDIA Drivers, well, we know the sad story and how crappy they are since last year. I'd rather have single powerful 980

If you just want a single GTX 980 in the laptop, you might want to take a look at the Eurocom Sky DLX7 as well (Clevo P775DM).

I am getting decent scaling on most games and waiting for sli profile on just cause 3. Honestly, if you are willing to overclock the 980m, you only need something like 20ish% scaling to match a 980. I really would recommend being patient and waiting. Seriously, I have an eurocom machine and am still patiently waiting.

I mean, if you can sell at a profit, by all means, do it. But if you are selling just to switch to GTX 980 and get the CPU OC BIOS earlier for a couple month, I am not sure it is worth it. Especially the 980 is kinda overpriced for what it is.

yeah that's what I noticed, if I sell it at the same price I bought it, I am ending up to pay a bit more for the same config with the 980 GTX vs Dual 980Ms

It seems I jinxed myself, the moment I posted this thread, the buyer backed off without even seeing the laptop

Yeah dude, its not worth it. Selling is way too much work. I was so lucky to ditch my GT70 for 1400 dollars and I never want to try to sell a performance laptop again. When I say profit, I mean, making well enough to cover the inconveniences of selling, without a real computer for weeks/months, buying new machines, and dealing with the buyers.

yeah bro thanks for opening my eyes to the bigger picture, I just realized I would be without this beast for at least 3 weeks that would kill me. Also, this laptop is perfect, as in, no IPS screen bleeding, no problems with cooling, just perfect, who knows what surprises I might encounter with the next one.
