Hello helpful folks!
My Skyx4c motherboard just gave up the ghost, and I'm thinking about building a desktop out of the components it left behind.
I was wondering about the feasibility of moving the (desktop) 1080 to an aftermarket cooler and installing it in a desktop motherboard.
Would this work with a VBIOS flash?
Thanks!

I'm assuming you're talking about a 1080 GPU. As long as it has a PCIE connector on it I don't see why it wouldn't work in a desktop MOBO. Finding a bracket to support it would be a good idea. Adapting the 1080 to desktop mode might not be worth the expense though vs buying / trading for one that's made for a desktop install.

Given the GPU market, my hope was to convert and use it for a few years before upgrading. It looks like even used 1080 FEs are going for $300-$500 on eBay. -
Eurocom have PCIe riser cards for MXM boards. Check the links below.

You need to adapt something for the aux power input however.

The 1080 in the laptop looks like this:
It's MXM. -

The aux power connector is the big issue, that adaptor is only shipped with standard mxm cards with no connector. You would have to make a circuit for it yourself like those who modded it in on the original p870.

It's better than trying to hack something.
