I didn't initially take the time to play with the settings for the milkdrop visualizer for winamp, but now that I have I'm surprised to find myself getting fps in the teens with settings maxed out. Is this right or is there something I'm missing here? I am running it at 1920x1200.

Yay, someone else on this planet loves Milkdrop!
I use it on a regular basis and I also hit F5 first thing when I load it...
Here are the settings I use:
Fullscreen 1920x1200 60hz 30fps max<--best setting
Canvas stretch: NONE
Mesh: 192x144
Pixel Shader: 3
Canvas size: Exact
(I also enabled hard cuts at 45 seconds)<--very cool
Oh yeah, I get framerates in the teens even with a T9300 and an 8800m gtx, but only when it switches from a very heavy preset to another. I'd say about 60% of the presets run at the max frame rate, then about 25% running between 25-30, 10% running 20-25, umm... 4% at 18-20 and 1% at an unholy 16-18....
The worst framerates occur when transitioning from a preset running about 16-20, to another of the same caliber. The lowest I have seen is a brief 11 or 12 something, but far to rare to encourage me to change my settings.
Conclusion: If Milkdrop was a friend of yours he'd give you a wet willy once a week and kick you in the balls once a month, however, he lets you drink all his beer and sleep with his hot stripper mom.
