I have 2 1TB drives in raid 1. Unfortunately I am out of storage space. Is there a way to use an external drive to mirror my OS drive on? I would loose the redundancy but would be able to pop the external drive into the laptop in case of failure. The other internal drive would store my data which is periodically backed up.
Is there any data loss problem leaving raid 1? I use the Intel RST cache to speed up my system and the left over space on the MSATA is used as a temp storage drive for large files I am working on for faster loads. Would moving from raid 1 affect that?
Last question; If the mirroring can be done via external drive can it be setup wirelessly?

    Thanks
    Mark

It sounds like your computer has 2x 1TB drives and an mSATA set for caches and you want to copy your OS only onto an external drive. If your OS is installed onto on of the 1TB drives you cant select to just have the OS mirrored onto another drive and omit the rest of the files. Your best bet would be to have another drive ready to install incase of failure and you'll still have your info since you have RAID 1 set up.

When you say mirror - do you mean clone? Or do you want to set up RAID mirroring (as you have now with RAID 1) between your current internal drive and the external? RAID 10 might be ideal for your needs but could be overkill as well.

I would look into some sort of over night backup network storage.
