acording to this website montevina wont be at computex neither will the PCMW orders for the m860TU be getting their computers for the second week in June. Has anyone close to Intel got any strong information for us??
-
-
Hmm, that`s odd. I haven`t found any other news about it.
I doubt they`d have a reason to lie though -
It´s simple... they are giving some time to the resselers/distributors to clean the Santa Rosa stocks.
-
This really sucks! I don't know if I can wait that long. I might end up getting the m570ru, I guess
.
-
The first manufacturer who releases an innovative new line of montevina based notebooks will out sell the competition. The current climate for the consumer and US economy in general doesn't appear to be improving so waiting to release new tech might not be such a good idea. First I've read about a change in release date. I wonder if Nehalem's release has changed?
-
could someone maybe call PCMW and confront them with this news? I would do it myself, but my mom got *****y for calling long distance.
-
wow seems like my 5793 purchase decision wasn't so bad after all
-
Isnt it absolutely AMAZING timing that all of this news breaks to us RIGHT AFTER the big "sale" finishes at PCMW? it just seems freekishly orchestrated. I feel violated.....
-
I contacted pcmw and even specified the montevina delay. They however maintained confidence that they will get it to use by 2nd week of June. I honestly don't know what they are trying to pull but we will see. They say they are "on track to meet the deadline". I am however keeping this email ready to forward back to them... just incase they try something stupid.
-
as we all know the ETA is the date they receive the chipset and cpu, PCMW never guaranteed that they will ship out m860tu within June or even July.
just my $0.02 -
-
Helios, invest in vonage. Its great. I use it when I'm making international calls. The price is next to nothing (in terms of international calls). Its like you have your own personal Miami number.
I'll call them tomorrow and see exactly what is up. Either way, I want montevina, at that price or less (based on price matching). -
actually, according to donald, its not all, but "some" of the montevina procs.
-
Hi, newbie here. Like many others, I spent considerable time researching for new laptop and finally arrived at the same conclusion: Must. Get. M860TU. So when the "terrific Memorial Day sale" came around, I couldn't resist. Naturally, I am also very dismayed by this new turn of events.
Forgive me if this has been posted already, but CNN also has an article up about the recent delay.
Unless I am reading this wrong, Intel is saying that some parts of Montevina will ship mid July (some processors and chipsets), and the rest will ship in August. I see no indication that anything will ship earlier. I think this is what Donald is also saying. The article is not very specific, but I am guessing that by "complete product releasing in August", they mean the wireless chip, and maybe some additional processors. Am I wrong?
All I know is, PCMW has some big brass balls if they are really betting against this delay. It just seems odd. -
actually nirvana, i asked them about the eta and hey said that, that is the date that the parts would be ready for them to ship out to customers. could be all lies though.
-
Technically nothing is wrong with the montevina chip, its just the drivers for the integrated card need to be sorted out and the WiMax has some paperwork issues. Otherwise, the processor, itself, should be ready. I'm going to call them later about it.
-
i dont see now why this news is so groundbreaking. I mean, we knew from the start that the intigrated G card drivers would not be ready in time and of course there will be wimax hold ups. The only place that i think has wimax in the world is somewhere in the Iraq area.
i say, release the system on schedule and just update the **** out of the system in a month or two. -
Guys, I have just had confirmed information from mycizmo that there is NO delay at all in the Intel Chipset and it is nothing more than rumour. Their sources at Intel say that the chipset is still on time.
-
Lol. Some resellers say there's a dealy, some say there`s not.
Who to believe... ? -
im going to believe what i want to believe then for now.

We are Intel Premier Partners and yesterday our Intel Field Sales Engineer gave us the information you will find in my post #1443 in another thread.
Believe what you will, but time will show that our information is indeed confirmed and accurate. -
Is it possible that although there is a delay, that they are being generous with their estimates? Could we see them earlier than they say they will be delayed until?

Anything is possible, but it is very unlikely that the Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform will be released before August 4th since the platform includes not only the new chipset and processor, but also the new 300MB/s 802.11 a/g/n wireless card and the GM45 integrated video which are causing the delay.
We may well see the P9xx Montevina processors with the PM45 chipset (for discrete video cards like nVidia and ATi) begin to ship the week of July 14th, but any laptops that use that processor/chipset will not be able to be called Centrino 2 because the platform will still be missing the new wireless card. They will ship with the current Intel 4965 802.11 a/g/n wireless card...Now, does anyone care that this configuration cannot be called Centrino 2? -
This is just what i think, but the articles about the delay did not specify Montevina chipsets as a whole so there might be some processors that are still on line and functional without the use of the WiMax and integrated gfx. Cause PCMW told me that as long as I ordered the T9600 i should get it by the ETA. (I dont know anything about the P so dont ask!
)
-
minkang, PCMW promised you that it will ship in June?
-
I guess I'm being optimistic in the hopes that there are no delays, they did not use the words promise, but the first email they sent me was that as long as i had the 8800gtx and the T9600, and any HD except the 360 7200rpm one it will ship because thats what they had been testing with. After sending them about three emails about the delay they pretty much said that they would be the first OEM to start shipping and that this delay does not affect their June shipping date. Their response was "That delay will not be affecting our delivery date. Our batch is currently on the way from Intel." They seem really keen on the fact they will be shipping it by then or they have some elaborate scheme to con us. Either way I also asked that if for some reason there was any delay would I be able to apply the memorial day discount to any of their other laptops and they said that i would be able to apply it to th e Horizon (5763) or their Blackhawk Quad (9262), probably will end up with the 5763 extreme core and 8800 came out to 2500 with the discount. So I guess in about a week I will have my answer to what im going to get.
-
did they just called themselves "OEM"? lol also you said "they had been testing with", was that suggesting they have it in stock already? hopefully you will be receive it by the day they told.

i remember it was rumored that the m860tu would have the hardware necessary to switch between integrated and discrete graphics (like the m15x) but would be unable to actually do so until drivers were released (at an unspecified time)
does anyone know if there is truth to this claim, and if it is true, does that mean it will ship later? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
There has been no announcement regarding the ability to switch between integrated and discrete video for the new Clevo models.
This technology was first introduced by Uniwill several years ago, but it really failed because the battery life savings was insignificant. -
IF there is an ability to switch to integrated graphics...even if the battery save is insignificant, and that is what is holding back the ship date, will the july 16 versions have that ability?...Basically even though it prolly wont happen, if they DO release these things without the WiMax, does that also mean they wont have the integrated graphics ability either?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^^
Clevo has no plans of adopting this technology at this time, and it has nothing to do with the delay in Centrino 2 launch.
WiMax also has nothing to do with the delay in the launch.
At this time the expected Centrino 2 launch is the week of August 4th, at which time it is hoped that both the new 300MB/s 802.11 a/g/n card and the GM45 chipset that supports integrated graphics are available. If the issues with these two components have not been resolved then the launch date will be pushed back yet again. -
so to m860tu will have integrated graphics in it, but it wont be able to be switched to?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No. The point is the M860TU does not use the GM45 chipset, it uses the PM45 chipset that supports discrete graphics cards like nVIDIA and ATi.
-
Ok cool, so the problems with the GM45 dont concern me, and if they ship the the wimax the only drawback...aside from no wimax...is the fact that i cant actually call it centrino 2?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No Intel direct company can call it Centrino 2 until the new 802.11 a/g/n wireless card is released...as I said before it has nothing to do with WiMax
-
So it´s only a minipcie card, that´s we can update it later, right?
-
no intel wifi
Centrino
-
able2know? Is that yet another accessory that is being delayed? lol
-
You guys should really consider taking a break, you`ve been at this for quite a while.
WAIT , PEOPLE, just WAIT.
PCMW`s "shipping" dates are pretty close now, maybe they`ll send the units, so just wait... -
^^^what he said.
-
Why are people PO'ing now? The sale is over, best thing to do is wait and see how they play themselves out....
