Well, my NP2090 is on its way, in Matte WSXGA form. However, I can still switch to a WXGA, and I'm a little torn between the two.

Basically, the title says it all. I want to use my lappy for games and movies and I wanted to know which option would satisfy me more, a glossy WXGA or a matte WSXGA?

I like the idea of added sharpness for my movies, but I also like the idea of glossy screens (never owned one before).

    Any inpute would be appreciated.

it's all about your preference and what you'll be using the notebook for. if your going to be more mobile with your NP2090, you might want to go matte as outdoor daylight tends to make a glossy screen difficult to see.

I was hesitant to go glossy mainly because of the glare but then I remembered my friends and cousins notebooks. My friend has a IBM ThinkPad T60 with a nice glossy screen. The colors were real vibrant and had great depth. The viewin angle was great as well. Both my cousins also have Asus laptops with glossy screens which I have used from time to time and never really noticed the glare even with light sources behind me as the brightness of the screen was enough to offset it.

I'm glad i went glossy and so far I hav no complaints about it.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a Glossy WSXGA, but I'm trying to weigh whether a glossy screen is better or a higher resolution screen is better (because I want both).

This isn't a "Glossy vs. Matte" or a "WXGA vs. WSXGA" thread, this is a "Glossy WXGA vs. Matte WSXGA" thread.

It all depends if you plan on using your laptop in a bright environ or a dark one. If it's always bright then go with matte. If it's primarily dark then go with glossy. Check out a Office Depot or Office Max, they always have glossy laptops displayed, check out the glare with the flourescent lights shining on them. If it doesn't bother you then don't sweat it. If it does then go matte.

Well, like I said, I do prefer the Glossy screen, but I can't get a Glossy WSXGA on the NP2090...

So what I'm wondering is: is it more important to get a Glossy screen or a higher resolution (WSXGA) screen if I want to watch movies and play games?

I would advise waiting then. If I remember right I think one of the resellers was posting that the WSXGA resolution would eventually be available in glossy.

I don't think anybody get what you are asking for, but anyways for games most people would prefer WXGA and for movies WSXGA+. Also you get more real estate for viewing web pages with WSXGA+ and don't forget that you can always lower your resolution for games(a lot of people said it would affect performance, but everybody who actually tried it said they did not notice any performance issues).

Glossy or Matte is personal preference, but you are right we don't have that choise here. So pick you resolution and deal with the rest.

Oh, the problem with lowering the resolution isn't performance related in games -- it's that text looks horrible if it's not in its native resolution so if you play mmos or any games with a lot of text, you really want to be running it in its native resolution. HOWEVER, for movies, the higher resolution the better. As far as appearance goes, I think matte is more natural but colors can tend to look washed out while glossy is definitely more vibrant but probably less close to the true colors. If you do photoediting, this is an issue.
