So good news my comp finally arrived and its amazing.

heres what i need help with. Im trying to play a simple DVD to check out this machines ability but...its completely choppy in full screen mode, like unwatchable. Im wondering if it has to do with the drivers or whether its to do with having 64 bit on a laptop with only 2 gigs of ram.

any suggestions? and should i download all the drivers on the sager website or should i use the disk that came with it?

    plz help me! ahh

The disk should contain the exact same drivers that's on Sager's website, so re-dling won't help. I doubt it's anything from being 64-bit or with 2gb, those should be fine. I think the problem might be caused by two possible reasons:
    1. Driver problems with DVD. This really shouldn't be the problem since most installations come with drivers already installed, even with self-OS-installation. But then again, that may be the case.
    2. (more likely) I think you need to specify what DVD you are playing here. From the symptoms it sounds like you are missing the correct codecs to play the files. So look up the file extension if they are not a movie DVD (as in bought from a store), be .avi .mkv, or whatever, and download the codecs and try again.
    3. Of course, very unlikely, that it's a defective item. Use some other disks to try it out. I doubt it's broken, however.

    Good luck.

I have the 32 bit version of Vista, but I cant imagine 2 gigs of ram would cause any problems. One would assume that the website driver would be more recent than the disc, but maybe not better. Try different video drivers first off and see if it makes a difference. If I were home now I would try a movie out... :(

ok heres the error i get. sorry for the bump. it says (i just put in a new dvd Chronicles of Narnia)

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to turn on analog copy protection on the output display. try installing an updated driver for your video card.

    close web help.

    thoughts?

Edit: The power DVD program says TheTV Out port of your display card is not working properly.

OK, first of all, don't use Windows Media Player because it's crap. Use Media Player Classic instead, it's lighter and much better supported. Google and download it.

From the error message, it sounds like a driver issue with 64-bit incompatibility with the video card. Best possible course of action is to get some new drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. The steps are pretty self-explanatory, but it will take a little bit to navigate the website. Just look around.

If it says standard VGA it looks like the card isn't being properly recognized, so I'd try re-installing the standard Nvidia drivers for the 8600.
