    Specs
Retailer: PCTorque (this is my second laptop from them. My first was a 5720 a few years ago which is still going strong, but I saw the deal on this newer laptop and couldn't refuse. I know PCTorque recently went through a change in ownership and I just want to let you know that they've been great. Answered all of my questions and were very courteous.)
    -Orange Trim
    -1920x1200
    -T8300 2.4ghz C2D
    -Wifi 5300

First thing I'm doing is running Memtest86+ to check my ram for errors. Then I'm going to work on installing Vista x64 Ultimate. I've never used Vista or a 64 bit OS before, any suggestions on weirdness I may run into with it? Also, I checked the bios and Robson memory is enabled but I don't have any in the machine. Do I need to turn it off or does it not really matter?

The robson on that machine is the same setting as ahci (sata ncq) so leave it on, it improves disc access times

Got Vista installing after figuring out the trick with putting the HD as the first boot device. Silly installer...

Dasfool, would you be able to post a video or perhaps a detailed description of the sound the fans make on the NP5793 (especially under heavy operations such as gaming), please?

go browse any of my 5793 demo vids on youtube. My name there is Callidor, as it is here. The fans are running in all of them, but you'll probably be able to hear them best in the vista demo vid, where there should be no other sound.

haha yea...the first time I pressed Fn+1 on my 5793 I was pretty shocked at how loud those suckers can get. I've gotten used to it though.

I am really interested in this thing, but am worried it will be too loud for a classroom. While just taking notes and browsing the web, would this thing be embarrassing to pull out during a pretty quiet class?

Toggle the fans to Medium Speed (Fn+3) for quiet usage.

@theriko: could you send me a link to the service manual for the 570ru?
I'm thinking of installing a robson module, does it make significant difference?

So far I've noticed one dead pixel. Glows red on a black background. I tried massaging it out, no luck. I'll try some color strobing to see if that does anything, but I'm not hopeful. Everything else seems to be going well. My Vista experience is 5.1 is that about right (I think the memory was the lowest mark)?

Working on installing WoW and all it's updates... *yawn*

Oh, and people asking about sound, my girlfriend is sleeping on the other half of the bed while I install things on the machine. So under normal non gaming use at least the sound is just fine.

if its a dead pixel, nothing you can do. ive head a dead pixel on mine for several months and ive tried many thing tso get rid of it but nothing has helped. ive tryed rubing it, using a program that changes colour quickly and none has helped

nice machine you got there, my vista score is 5.0 everything else is like 5.8 - 5.9 the HD is getting the low score as im upgradding it from 120GB to 320GB i hope to improve that a bit.

Just ran 3dmark 06 with stock settings 1280x1024, etc.

    Using Dox's 178.24 driver.

    Results:
    8904 3DMarks

    SM 2.0 Score: 4169
    SM 3.0 Score: 3900
    CPU Score: 2140

I don't have PhysX installed. Would installing it increase the CPU score, and therefore the overall? Are these scores the norm for a system setup like mine?

I'm probably going to pick up Fallout 3 today. Will be nice to have a new-ish game going on my new baby.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, I'm looking at getting the 5793, but I was wondering if choosing the 2.1ghz processor would bottleneck its performance in games?

Im able to pull out about 2½ hours of battery life from it, surfing the web and light usage in powersaving mode, see sig for specs :)

Tbh its more than I would expect from a beast like this, also with the newer processors (mine being build on the merom, which uses a bit more power than the Penryn you get today) you should be able to pull out a little more battery life :)
