My 7970M shows up in in tools such as afterburner, 3DMark11, FurMark and GPU Shark, but it will not show details such as temperature, driver version and memory.

    Examples:
    - GPU Shark v0.4.4 TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.
    - MSI Afterburner 2.2.5 Beta 1 TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.
    - FurMark 1.10.3 (Bonus question: What the hell is GPU 2 (AMD WIMBLEDON XT?) TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

I am using AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta 8 9.01.8 and my computer is a Clevo model P170EM.

    Any help is appreciated=)

What does the program HWinfo say?

Here is a picture of the info it shows me: TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

Also, is there any way of finding out if an application uses the Intel GPU or the AMD one?

Go to the sensors and it will give you a readout of all the details (temps/clocks/voltages). AMD CCC should have settings for programs to say which it will use. You'll see from performance which it is.

I used to have the feature where you could switch between which GPU a program would use, but I can't seem to find it again =(

Here is a pic of my CCC TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

The only options I have under Switchable Graphics is to switch between performance levels during batterymode and plugged-in mode.

Thanks for the help btw =)

Go to the applications rather than the global.

    You are very welcome.

When I click the button for applications, CCC just closes without anything else happening: TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

And when I right click the desktop and try to configure the switchable graphics, nothing happens as well.

Any idea on what is going on?

I would suggest uninstalling all your drivers. Then install the latest from your reseller/sager then the latest betas on top of those.

Ok, I will try that. Do you have any guidelines on correctly uninstalling and installing all the necessary drivers? There seems to be many problems going around regarding drivers and installation.

    Again, thanks! =)

    Nope:
    TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.
    TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

However, it will show information about the Intel HD 4000 GPU.

EDIT: Do you think the card refuses to give me info, or do you think it does not "work" which could lead to the odd results?

It was detected by HWinfo so its fine in that respect, are you running into performance issues?

I do not think so, seeing as I score pretty even on 3DMark11 with similar systems: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,CLEVO P170EM score: P6605 3DMarks

However, 3DM11 claims that my graphics driver is not approved. This could be because of my CCC being relatively new.

The problem is that I do not know my card's limits. I have tried SpeedFan, but I am pretty sure that the GPU shown is the Intel HD 4000 one seeing as my 7970M refuses to give up temperature info and such.

I am off to bed now, but I might try reinstalling drivers etc. tomorrow if nothing else seems to fix the issue.

You won't have the Switchable Graphics Menu with the beta driver, you only have it on Enduro Performance driver. However the beta 8 driver can automatically detect when to launch application at High Performance, so you don't really need the Switchable Menu. Personally I prefer using the beta 8 as it seems more stable for me. Hope this help.

I am using HWmonitor, and it is also showing "intel hd4000" with temperature readings but this is actually the temp from the 7970M, just saying :) I know this because when I launch it without any game/program running in the background that uses the 7970M, the temp reading is just not there + when using the official 7970M drivers I could also read the temps with afterburner and they matched those of hwmonitor. Now with the 12.11 drivers I can't use afterburner anymore to monitor everything, so I can only get temps from hwmonitor

    Thanks for all the responses=)

I think I've got it now. So when AMD releases a finished non-beta driver, I will be most likely be able to view the card's info info in most programs?

I managed to get some information out the 7970M with the sensors in the program HWInfo (thanks Meaker!) TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.

To the OP, if you read the 12.11P 7970M drivers thread (both of them) and the beta 8 thread, you will see people have said they can see all the info with the performance drivers, but not on the beta ones.

That's not true. I see the Switchable Graphics menu with either the beta (always have) as well as the performance one. As for stability, beta never gave me issues in-game the same as you but the performance drivers crashed every single game I have.

I have never had the Switchable graphics Menu on beta driver, however I installed it. It is the menu where we can choose manually which program to be set in "High Performance" or "Economy energy", are you sure you have this on 12.11 beta? How did you install it then?

Yup, 100% sure. I just uninstalled all AMD drivers, with a reboot for each one (drivers and CAP, if I had it) and then installed the new one and rebooted after it.

I did a burn-in test with FurMark v1.10.3 and for ten minutes the GPU temp was lying steady at 87-90 degrees Celsius at default clocks (850/1200). Is this a bad result or as expected?

    FurMark 25 Nov 2012.jpg

Sorry for the amount of questions I have, but I have read that a lot of people lay at quite a few degrees lower than myself. It might be because they have a different PC (Alienware M17 etc.). I'm just curious =)

Some of the more demanding DX11 titles along with 3dmark to do comparative runs.

Just use AMD System Monitor already

    AMD System Monitor

If you want to do the foil, go ahead. Shouldn't be a problem as you can find foil tape that can withstand temperatures far exceeding what the 7970M or i7 can producce. As for testing your cooling, just play an intensive game like the Witcher 2 or Sleeping Dogs.

    Hi,

Aside from the AMD system monitor, there are some fairly good free, third party applications (such as GPU-Z or hwinfo32 - already mentioned). Speccy from Piriform is also a good system info tool.

As for the foil tape trick, just be advised that if you crack open the case, you're liable to void the warranty on the unit (if it's still currently covered).

    Best regards!

Negatives are weight I guess, just be careful of shorting anything and it wont hurt.

Recommend to do foil mod.. using three months now and zero problems! Just better temps.. Do it!
