Hi guys, I've had this issue with my computer since i put the parts in myself and installed Vista 64 bit. When i go to start and choose Reboot, Vista logges out and the screen goes black. But it doesn't reboot. The screen just stays black and i can hear the fans still going. (when i select shut down or sleep, it works as normal). I'm supecting that this might be an issue with bios or the chipset. But I don't know how to update my bios and i can't find any new drivers for the chip set. Anyways, is anyone familiar with this issue? I would really appreciate all help! This problem has been here for too long.

I'll also write some specs in case you need to know.
    Specs:

    Quad Core 3.0 Ghz Q9650
    Nvidia 9800m Gtx
    Vista Home premium 64bit

Seems like a BIOS problem, but the versions after June 2008 should not have this problem. When did you buy the laptop?

Well i bought it from a guy who builds laptops himself. He clamed it was from the end of 2008. So I'm pretty sure it's newer than june 2008(but you can never know). The vendor he bought it from call this model ''Kunshan D900'', but it is a Clevo D901c. So is there a way for me to update my bios? In the list of hardware where all the components are displayed it says that the prosessor is ''unknown'' I have a Norwegian version of Vista so i don't know exacly what it's called.

    Thanks

The Bios is easy to update. Seearch on this forum for the topics, you will find instructions how to find what version of BIOS you have and how to install it.

The random freezing can be also because of a bad driver of the wireless card or video. you can check if the cause is the driver of the wireless card by disabling the wireless from the device manager.

One note about the firmware Vista or XP refers not to the operating system you use, but to the windows button you have on the left oof your keyboard. In practice probably it does not matter too much

I guess you treid to install it from Vista. You need to create a bootable disk or usb stick, boot from it and then install the new BIOS, restart and then the same for the firmware (im anot sure if the order in which you install them is important). In the post http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=311294 there should be some instructions how to do it.

yes here use HP Format Tool to create bootable USB Driver in the HP folder you will find Win98 Boot Files use them then you have to make in bios first boot device USB Flash copy Bios folder and Firmware folder to the usb driver and boot from it after that update firmware restart and update bios

    http://rapidshare.com/files/228588502/HP_USB_Format_Tool_v2.1.8.7z

or you can use this Sager bios v1.00.20 and firmware version 1.00.10N
the bios and firmware are in image file that only have to be burn on CD or DVD
disk and boot from it the bios and firmware update are automatic

So i bought a Usb stick now. And i Used the HP Format tool on it choosing: Create a DOS startup disk and : Using DOS system files located at: (The windows 98 folder) So when i boot from the usb i get in to this black screen saying: Windows 98 (and more) Where i have to write commands to get anywhere.. Do you know the commands? og is it supposed to happen automaticly?
Or did i do something wrong?
    Thank you

You need to copy the firmware files to the stick (all of them from the arhive from here http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/esupport/MarketDLOut.asp?model=D900C/D901C&go=GO&type=BIOS).

Just boot get the command line (in general just press enter everytime you are asked something during booting) and then type h8update.bat and press Enter. After is all done restart then boot again from the stick get the command line and then type h8update.bat and press Enter and let it do what it can.

If you are still not able to do it with these instructions I suggest you get some reading about how to boot in DOS and related stuff. It is simple but I do not know how explain efficient wihtout the print screens.
