Heya folks...
well, as the title says, my D900K F-Bomb quits working and to make matters worse, i'm traveling overseas... and still have 4 days left on this trip.
system is as my sig, a Voodoopc version of D900K F-Bomb...
basically, the problem seemed to arise in stages...
Stage 1 when i noticed first problem was that as i was using the lappy, the screen went black and no response, all LED was on... everything else seem to be running ok... but no response...
i hit ALT F2 and put the fan up high and it came back...
Stage 2 when i tried to turn on my laptop on a different day, i hear the CD Rom drive cycle on and off, the HDD indicator goes on and off... and after a bit, it came on...
Stage 3, recently, i tried turning on the system, and all it does is CD Rom cycle on and off, HDD LED goes on and off... and fan in the back goes on, but fan in the front for Video does not go on...
when i hit CTRL F2, all fan goes on, but does not stay on....
then suddenly, the Windows load screen appeared for a minute, then screen went black...
now, the CD Rom cycles on and off with the IDE LED but nothing...
as mentioned before, all i have is a screwdriver and 4 days remaining on my trip... any thoughts?
btw, i wonder if there is any CLEVO service centers in Korea...
thanks in advance for any help.
desperate and willing to try anything...

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
If I were you i would try to test all the parts seperately like the HDD,RAm,DVD etc leaving the MOBO.

Kh, isn't your machine still under warranty? If so, even Voodoo (read: iMax) should at least attempt a fix for you. If not, he or somebody at Voodoo should recommend something in the way of advice on an avenue to pursue.
I don't go to the new Voodoo boards anymore, so wonder if you've posted there? Surely somebody associated with the company (or another owner) should have something to offer you.
Frankly, if I were in your shoes, I'd keep the hdd if it had any important data, toss the rest of the machine in the nearest trash can and just buy another machine. Voodoo's service has become so poor, its machines so unreliable, IMO, they're not worth the concerted effort and total PITA required to get them fixed if you have the means for another laptop.
In any case, I wish you well. -
If the system is still under warranty, you should get it serviced immediately.
although all of your problems seem very strange... in that they do not connect to just one issue.
to troubleshoot, you will need to remove the non-essential parts first:
- HDD(s)
- Optical Drive(s)
- mini-PCI cards (Wireless card and TV tuner)
1) a black screen could mean:
- the lcd cable could be damaged or loose
- the lcd's lamp is out
- the lcd itself is dead (usually uncommon)
test: you can connect the system to an external display and turn on the system.
- if you see a display on the external monitor, then its your LCD's lamp, cable, and/or LCD itself
- if you do not see a display... it can be the videocard module (which would either require to be re-seated securely, or replaced if that does not work.
- and if its not the videocard, it can be lower level... motherboard, CPU, RAM
2) the IDE LED indicator for HDD and optical drive
- this is not as important, but it can be either the optical drive(s) and/or HDD(s)
- you can use one at a time to make sure which is which
Test: connect one optical drive and/or HDD at a time
- HDD tests would be good using the manufacturer's diagnotics tools... and use Window's CHKDSK C: /F (in Command Prompt)
- Optical Drive are hard to test... but usually they have a low failure rate. -
f-bomb?
i thought he meant that his clevo kept on swearing
..... -
nah... I think he was using Eurocom's model name... for some odd reason... when he actually has a VoodooPC version.... weird.
He should have just said D900K. -
oh ok. another thing, why is eurocom called "euro"com when its a canadian reseller? (is it?)

King, your inverter is shorting on the back of your screen. I can almost guarantee it. I have had similar issues with mine.
If you rotate the screen back, the problem should go away, but the only way to fix that is to open the screen up and make sure the wires are not shorting/grounding on the lcd panel.
For the optical drives, one of them may be causing problems, so you can remove them pretty easily. If you open the harddrive cage, you will see a large silver scre in the top left corner of the bay. Remove that screw (screw is about 1.25" long) than use your finger and push the cd drives out. Than power up the system and pray that it works.

<------ I do that (well not a voodoo anymore)
just return it to voodoo and let them fix-it IMO. they probably didn't put something back together on your voodoo... -
Shyster, Voodoo still exists - unfortunately, IMO. It was bought out, but lives on under HP's . . . guidance and direction (LOL), more or less as AW does under Dell. As far as I know, the Voodoo facilities not only still live in Calgary, they've been expanded, and include the addition of more personnel. A new website is up and running as well, separate from HP's own. -
) that they're _HP personnel who have been trained under _HP's H.R. regimen, which means that their presence will dilute, rather than enhance, the particular office-culture that was a substantial part of what made VoodooPC "VoodooPC."
Meanwhile, the founder of VoodooPC, Rahul Sood, is now the CTO for _HP's gaming division, which means that the spirit that formed VoodooPC, and influenced its development, has been removed and is only indirectly related to what remains of VoodooPC as a separate culture. Rahul himself has gamely tried to put the best face possible on the move in his blog, but the fact remains that, like an ounce of blue ink poured into a 10-gallon bucket of water, which initially coheres as an identifiable swirl of blue in the otherwise transparent water, VoodooPC will inevitably become no more than a very, very faint tinge to _HP's continuing operations.
VoodooPC is dead, and all that remains is cleaning the carcass, pulling the remaining marrow from the bones, and then setting up a nice little urn somewhere out of the way, where it will gather dust and gradually be forgotten. -
I doubt it... -
