Hi, I just got my Clevo P150SM-A today and I have a question. Is it normal for the fans to be randomly going on and off while simply web browsing? My temps average at around 40 C (Idle) and for some reason it becomes obnoxiously loud randomly. To note, I also have turbo boost disabled.
While were at it, can anyone provide me with the fingerprint driver? I opted for a HDD Caddy in place of the DVD drive so I can't really install the driver from there and the driver isn't posted in their official website.
Thanks in advance!

We've heard about the fans doing that on a few prevoius models but really not on these new ones. For the previous ones a BIOS update fixed that.
Maybe there are some programs running in the background which kick on causing higher temps. Like Antivirus or similar. -
Bios is update to date and I'm using Microsoft Defender so I don't it's the AV. This happened while I was just browsing around after updating it (Nothing downloaded and installed except google chrome). Though after looking around a bit I did find "Quiet" mode in the hotkey utilities, so maybe that'll fix it. Too bad there really isn't any description whatsoever on what each mode exactly does.
Edit: it did seem to fix it, though I don't get why performance mode in the hotkey utilities has make the fans so loud during idle periods. If anyone knows a way to keep performance mode while not having the fans burst while idling I would really appreciate it!
Oh I spoke to soon, the inconsistency with the fan is still there, but it just occurs less often. Is there a way to just have the fans off til it reaches a certain temperature?
Would using speedfan be an okay solution to this? -

Not manually, and Speedfan, or any software for that matter, is unable to control fan activity. I believe there's a start/stop temperature threshold on the fans, though it's uncertain what the exact temps are.
You mentioned that your BIOS is up to date, but just to be sure: what is your BIOS version and EC Firmware version? -
My bios is 1.03.02R LS1
EC is 1.03.03
Update: I called Sager and apparently the fan is supposed to start upon reaching 55 C, which is confusing since it's been randomly go on and off in mid 40's. They just told me to just keep recording the temps til tomorrow and notify them about it.
Edit to update: Okay, I managed to find out the problem as for why the fans turn on and off randomly. After recording some temps, I noticed that temperatures only slightly dipped past 55 C every so often then drop quickly to mid 40s due to fan which then turns off creating an endless cycle. -
I'm getting the same problem on this model. I have very little activity, but I still get fan cycling. Personally I'd be happier with the low constant fan noise vs the cycling.
I'm very interested in a fix/way to customize this. -

Oh, may I inquire where I can find the bios? Currently away from my laptop and searching for it on my phone isn't working out so well.
-
You will probably have to inquire at the seller. Clevo doesn't post the BIOS on their site for download to the general public.
-
It would be nice if these companies made better fan profiles that slowly revved up and down to be a smoother transition instead of nothing vs high, the sudden increase just makes too noticeable a noise difference.
Good to know thought this only happen on some systems and not all. -
The ramp up on the 8258-S is very nice and I've not had it max out yet.
