Not to bash you or anything, but do you honestly need/ are going to use ALL that?

Or are you just one of those types that just maxes out everything to feel good about their purchase

The things that prompt my question are your blu-ray burner and your screen res. The screen res is often a personal issue, but I've seen a lot of people get it on other computers simply because they think bigger = better.

    Understandable then :)

Also, yes! Ugh. Seriously, I was expecting to pay like 2.3k for the config I wanted out of my own pocket, and as an incoming university student with no job, that is not a happy prospect.
When I saw xoticpc's and powernotebooks' prices, I honestly jumped up and squealed with joy. I get to save like 400 or more, depending on what I finally settle on with the Clevo :D :D

(That's money towards new clothes! Or a console. I can't decide)

the blu-ray burner put the price way over the top.

you can just get the bluray reader/dvd-rw (about $300-350) and still have a great unit that is still "bang for the buck". :)

Then later on when blu-ray burners mature and get cheaper, you can upgrade it yourself.

    ___________

Silent Mode is still on this system to toggle the notebook to undervolt and underclock its power hungry components in order to prevent the fan from turning up from the low amount of heat.

If you are willing to spend this much, why not get the NP5796. Only a couple hundred more, same screen res, but more viewable area. (4750 subtotal) If you are spending that much, why not go quad core (only 300 more after all).

Basically same config (but 9800m GTX, which you can't get on the 860tu)

i dunno why, but i prefer the m860tu's looks over the np5793. and a 15 incher is alot easier to carry around at school/college than a massive DTR..

Well when you look at the dimensions, the 5796 is only 1.2lbs heavier, 1.1" longer width wise and in height .8" bigger.

whoa, really that much? a kg is alot to me, as it already is a pretty heavy laptop in 15 inch terms.... and another 2 cm thicker is abit too thick for my tastes. i might just stay wit the np8660. QUESTION: how fast is the 128GB SSD compared to all the other options (except for the 64GB SSD, no chance ima gettin that), does it help battery life?

That's a pretty nice looking system. I do question the proccessor though, as it seems pointless if you're a gamer since the GPU will be the bottleneck. I'm also a bit turned off on SSD's atm, but that's just me.

I'm turned off by SSD's only because of their limited lifetime writes and eventual failure. Though I suppose it would outlast the lifetime of an average notebook.. Guess i'm just paranoid about booting my computer up one day and having all my files missing. I guess if you're running Ghost on the external hard drive you'll be fine..

It's well known that SSD are likely to fail (presumably earlier compared to a traditional HDD).

Hi Qaz333. There were a few posts about SSD's in a thread on the M15x forum. Can't remember where though. But I wouldn't put my faith in new technology until it is fully tested and improved. 120gb HD or SSD is too small for my needs anyway. I'm not really trusting of anything flash based at the moment (apart from flash/pen drives which you generally just use to transport stuff across to other things anyway).

I won't be buying a notebook with a Blu-Ray drive right now because I have seen far faster external multi-format BD-RW ones that are far quicker than anything offered inside a notebook at the moment. Until notebooks offer speedier, improved Blu-Ray drives that catch up to what you can buy externally (and internally for desktops), then I won't be wasting my money. I'll just buy an external BD-RW drive to connect up if I was that desperate to watch HD movies on a laptop, or needed to backup and shift GBs of data.

Blu-Ray may be the way forward, but it is still a little backwards at the moment. People will still use DVDs for many, many years, due to the billions of releases on DVD (and the cult/independant films). They're STILL playing catch-up with making VHS releases available on DVD... and I doubt there will be many old DVD-to-Blu-Ray releases, as I imagine that you can't visually improve the Master Copy of a film more than DVD already has (in this day anyway). The American release of Terminator 2 in HD isn't true 1080p, as it can't be made to be. It's just upscaled/sharpened a bit. It's only the more recent cinema-released films which have taken on board the whole Widescreen aspect as standard, 1080p enabling, and HD desirability, that will allow a release on both a Blu-Ray disc as well as on DVD. I don't see DVDs becomming obsolete for many years. Unless they release a series of films on one Blu-Ray disc. But again, that's going to be the same as somebody making a CD compilation of their favourite tunes. The tunes won't be improved, but the appeal of carrying around one disc filled with "favourite things" is what we go for. Putting my favourite DVDs onto one Blu-ray disc is quite appealing to me for portability reasons. Although, I'm someone who also likes to keep ownership of the originals and original packaging. :)
I don't agree with non-entity purchases either, like people who stupidly purchase a film or something that only exists on their HD (namely next gen console users). You don't have any tangible back-up for what you have paid for. But I digress...

I just wouldn't go overboard on your specs without doing a little research first or waiting on an honest review. If you are just going to be gaming, why not downgrade the processor you have chosen, as one of the moderator's mentioned recently that the better GPU's tend to work optimally with a lower CPU, as the GPU's won't bottleneck. And do you really need the 64bit Vista? Will you be using software that would benefit more from this?

I'm currently waiting on a comparison review of the T9400 and P9500 CPUs.
