Just recently i had put i clean install of windows vista 64x on my computer. As i started to play anygame i noticed that every 30sec to 60sec the game would skip or stutter . (My frustration toward my computer was taken out against my desk.) I then diagonosed the problem to the GPU drivers. I tried almost all of the drivers possible i have 180.70 on now but the problem is the same for all of them. Could anyone please lead me in the right direction???

I had the same problem on a desktop with Vista 64 and an Nvidia 8600GTS a while back. Enabled Vsync and all was well. Hopefully this works for you.

If you've run through all of the video drivers and the problem hasn't changed, then it's probably not primarily caused by the video drivers. Another source of stuttering could be your wireless or the bluetooth module - both of them poll on a recurring basis looking for signals, and when they do, they monopolize the FSB, meaning that nothing else, such as signals from the processor to the GPU, can get onto the FSB at that time. Try turning off your wireless and then your bluetooth to see if that makes any difference.

It could also be a USB issue if you're using either a USB keyboard, mouse, or external drive at the time.

It seems like you have some periodic process that starts and stops in the background that is using up resources. Hit ctrl+alt+delete and watch the process that you have running to see what is cycling on/off.

I have the same laptop and config as you do except with the 200G hard drive; I had the default Nero installed from Sager and I notice it was doing some random background tasks trying to connect to the internet for some reason and it was spiking my cpu usage. I do not use Nero so I just uninstalled it and it fixed the problem.

Seems like the stuttering was caused by my HP printer program so i uninstalled it and all seems back to norm...
Thanks for all your help and input, not to mention the quick replies.

That could do it, particularly if the printer driver was constantly polling the printer for its state.

Make sure the Powermizer (in Nvidia Control Panel) is set to Max Performance... or is disabled.

Also do the same for the Windows Power Options.

I would also recommend to turn off any background programs/services that could affect the gaming environment:
    - antivirus/spyware suite
    - Drive Indexing service
    - disable Windows Aero (switch to Classic Mode)

Then you can test to see if its Firewall-based.
    - disconnect from the internet (just disable you network adapters in Device Manager)
    - turn off or disable the firewall program

In reference to the Powermizer. I don't see an option for it in my Nvidia Control panel. Im running 180.70 drivers.
