After weeks of waiting, my laptop arrived. To my great surprise, I actually got the silver edition instead of the standard orange one. I was kind of pissed when people who ordered later then me started getting their laptops last week, but this made up for it. Special thanks to xotic PC for changing up my order!

However, I soon encountered some problems came up. When I tried installing Vista I eventually got the error "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
I then tried to install xp, but I got BSODed saying I might have viruses or HDD issues. I'm a pretty experienced computer user, and OS installations are pretty hard to screw up, so I'm almost completely sure its a hardware problem. Any thoughts on this such as is this covered under warranty and I get free shipping?

    edit:
I also get the message in bios that I'm missing BOOTMGR, which doesn't sound good....
edit2: added pics, but its weird how the pics are sideways....sorry.

I had a similar problem with a desktop. I eventually found out that my memory had to be underclocked to 667 instead of 800.

    Suggestions:

    a) Would it be possible to re-flash your bios through a boot cd-rom/dvd? You could try to make this with your desktop.
    b) Full format then reinstall (I assume you've tried this, already)

Yes, I have deleted and reformatted the HDD a few times now... and no cure. I haven't really thought about reflashing, I'll look into it.

If theres a hardware problem it would be a bad idea to flash a new bios as if something goes wrong you could brick your computer.

Yeah, sorry, these pics were rather hastily taken as I was quite excited... until I found some issues....
I'll take some better ones tomorrow.
As for calling support, I'm trying that right now.

Yeah, it was "unavaliable till august" and I got mine on the 31st, so who knows. But I definitely have to thank xoticpc as I only pmed justin a few times on the avaliability. I never even formally asked to be switched. Those sneaky fiends! (said in the most lovingly way possible).

edit: checking the xotic site now, it seems like silver trim is officially available.

Definitely make sure your BIOS is up to date... and make sure you do a MemTest86+ (to check on an possible memory errors).

Then I would suggest that your Vista disc is not scratched or damaged... because one of mine was and it cause issues during the install.

It seems like my vista disk is damaged as it would not work on my desktop. I'll look into getting a replacement. I did manage to install xp x64 by changing the hdd connection to ide then the proprietary vista connection in bios. So the good news is that there probably isn't anything wrong hardware wise. But I have limited driver support... so I have to reinstall when I get vista.

You can download a Vista ISO (x86 or x64) from Microsoft, I have access to all official Microsoft ISO images since I am a Microsoft TechNet member. :)

lol, well unless you're willing to pm me a link to x64 version of vista, I don't think I can take advantage of that

edit: lol, you did provide a link.... but like you said, it won't work for me...

Sager had the silver trim available since the 20th. That is when the ETA thing went down.

Have you tried talking to Justin@Xoticpc, or anyone else over there? Or even Sager technical support? They're much more likely to have useful solutions or diagnostics than we are.

Yeah, the 24/7 support was very helpful when they solved my os installation problem by telling me to switch to ide hdd connection. More props to you guys for that. As of now, I'm just waiting for a new copy of vista, so unless I can get some xp x64 drivers, Its all good.
