I just got my 8660! Well, I got it yesterday, but I didn't have much time to play with it till this morning. Unfortunately, orientation started yesterday so I don't have much time to do a thorough review.
At a glance though, the build feels really sturdy-- no flex on the screen, no screen wobble. It's also a lot thinner than expected, but I was pretty much ready to receive an encyclopedia, so thats not saying much. Unfortunately, the keyboard has a little lag and I find it missing keys every now and then (although not too often, and most of that was spacebar skips). It runs very cool for non-gaming use, I've been using it for browsing and installing stuff since last night and have yet to notice any heat on any part of the laptop. The fans are quiet to begin with, and even quieter on silent mode. So that's the quick rundown, feel free to post questions and I'll get back to you when I have free time between orientation activities.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yey first post
so are you having the same problems as ad@m is with the right side getting hot?? what specs did u get on it?? harddrive temp plx? -
keyboard should not miss...you may want to check the keyboard cable and reseat it into the locking collar socket.
There are four latches at the top of the keyboard, slide them back, tilt the keyboard forward, remove then reinsert ribbon -
how is the heat?can you post your spec?

Who's your reseller?
That' will be my sole question, as I should have mine delivered in about two hours. My stomach is in knots. Couldn't sleep; can't eat. -
Temperature monitor please
-
congrats on the new rig.
I recommend to get a good notebook cooler for it to make sure it never over heats. -

Ya Gophn what kind of coolers do you sell?
-
I think he is just looking out for everybody.
Do you have some bad stories you can relate to us Gophn?
And congrats on the awesome new laptop. -
Didn't read what you typed (I like the ones with pictures!)
Pictures tell 1000 words bud.
Enjoy it though
I'm glad I still have 2 weeksbefore my leisure time is erased forever

I am sure it was designed to run without a special laptop cooler.

It is desgined to run without a special laptop cooler, but the cooler would extend the lifespan of the laptop from say 5 years to 10 years.

Haven't had a chance to run any legitimate temperature monitors yet (installing as I type), but just from feeling, the cooling is great. My specs are:
P9500, 4GB RAM, 9800GT, 320GB 5400RPM. Those are the relevant ones at least. I'll check out the cable like you said if the keyboard gets really bad, but right now it's only like one skipped keytroke every 30 seconds, so for all I know I'm just typing too fast and not pushing the keys down hard enough. I feel like my choice to go with a 5400RPM hard drive had some impact on my temps, as I'm not even feeling the heat on my palmrest-- at best, it could be described as lukewarm.
I ordered from Power Notebooks, Donald was an EXTREMELY patient reseller considering all the changes I made to my order, and the fact that I had a pretty late change in shipping address, I would easily reccomend him to anyone else.
Edit: Alright, here's the CPU under idle, I'll get you load temps in a bit.
Okay, I don't have 3DMark right now, so I can't give you completely accurate load temps, but these are the temps I have during the installation of my programs:Attached Files:

I have been using a Thermaltake D500 laptop cooler for a while now. Seems like it does the job and is only $25. Why should I upgrade?
-
those are some pretty nice temperatures
-
wootz gratz!!
and i've seen tonnoes of gophn's posts asking lots of people to get coolers... i think i got influenced by him... i bought a nc-2000 even before my laptop arrived.. almost 1 week earlier..
and yes, its a really great idea to get a cooler. keeps your computer cooler, and most prob its' gonna live longer tooso yeah thx gophn for the advice

This is Gophn's bedroom -
Lower temps ALWAYS mean longer lifespan.
-
Condensation?
I need to do something like that though. Take advantage of the freezing winter winds. It's made so nicely... -

Gophn's bedroom lood more like a basement ... And what are you doing, are you running a server of some sort with all those external hard drives?
-
Actually, my room looks more like an arcade:
- BEMANI gaming equipment (DDR metal pads, Beatmania turntables, Yamaha keyboard, Guitarfreaks & Drummania controllers, etc...) everywhere
- two X-Arcade Joysticks
- computer parts everywhere -

Wow! That's pretty cool! Are you still in school or are you working now? And what do you do for a living?
-
And I beta test for EA and Epic, as well as some other developers occasionally... for free actually, since I enjoy it.
I am a gamer for life. -

I beta test for EA too. But I never have my own business. It would be cool though. I am thinking about to start a small medical device consulting company while I am attending medical school. I used to game a lot, but school forced me to hold back my gaming instinct.

is that vent made of pieces of paper taped together????
-
Yes. It's beautiful.
-
Gophn, man, I thought I had a lot of junk in my room. What are your long term plans for cleaning that mess up?
-
-
I was going to suggest you build a proper cabinet.
Cases make tech sexy, bare components leave nothing to the imagination. Ruins the magic. -

I tried to use Craigslist to rent out my house, then a bunch of prostitutes sending me email and telling me they are models and about to moved from Europe to the US and want to rent my house X_x .....
-
-
But were they from Nigeria? I think not.
Any word if they are charging more than italics? I might have to raise my prices. -
^--^ I had a feeling you'd be price gouging again, Mike
-
Hey, if I can get away with bold font or maybe underlines, why not?
Nah, italics is subtlety. Money can't buy that kind of class. -

I like the NP8660 far more than any other Sager so far and it actually got my interest. The pictures can be misleading as I can not find one with something nearby for scale, a 9800gt in a 15" this baby is pretty thick isnt it?
Do we have any 3dmark06 scores posted up yet? -
3dmark06 scores vary from 9100-9400 or so.
