I bought this model in 2008 and it worked wonderfully up til last week.
While it was working on Windows Vista it started to go to a black screen,
and the laptop still remained on and the speed of the fans sped up.
I had to turn the computer on and off several times, and to no effect.
Until I thought to give it 24 hours to cool down, and then when i did
it did start back up; but then it would go back to fritzing.
my worst thought was that something is fried like the ram or motherboard
or hard drive, so i took it down to a computer shop for a proper diagnostics.
24 hours later the guy tells me that everything is absolutely fine and there
shouldnt be any reason for it to go to the black screen at all.
so i bought windows 7 and installed it, thinking it was a Vista issue.
again i was wrong, expensive mistake.
but today i noticed while my computer was not attached to the charger
it ran absolutely fine. i even played heavy-duty games like Just Cause 2
and Crysis and the game didnt crash or fritz or blackout. (while on battery)
so in my newbie experience, im thinking that the charger is the main
cause of all my angst.
i dont know if they charger is burnt out or overloaded or whatever.
but it is running, i can see the green light when it is plugged in.
So im begging for some help please. I could be absolutely wrong in my beliefs
so i need some expert help here!
if you believe the charger to be the problem, then please tell me a place
where i can buy a new battery + charger for my model.

Hi Cayne and welcome to nbr.
was firstly going to say have you cleaned the fans out lately and used HW Monitor to check your temps BUT i dont think i need too as if its running fine on battery it must be the power brick thats the problem. strange though as it must be charging it still.
where did you buy it from and did you take out the extra 2 year warranty as if you did it should be covered by that. if you didnt you can find one in the Clevo Guide -
i give my computer a proper clean from inside every month. no dust-bunnies there, so cant really say that is a issue; but we can get that idea out of the way.
currently running HW Monitor and it seems to show that everything is running fine. processors, graphics card and hard drive seem to show that it is running within normal capacity.
and one more thing, sorry about the date typo, it wasnt 2008 that i got this laptop; it was 2007. i did get a 2 year warranty (expired in 2009).
and as for where i got the laptop from, it was from AET Solutions. -
dalm, warranty run out. dont you just hate that
best bet is to check the clevo guide for resellers around your area and give them a call or email their sales dept. -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Looks like some kind of charger issue or voltage issue of graphic card.
-
If it runs fine on the battery, and won't run good on the charger...it's probably the charger...I'd replace the ac adapter. Worse comes to worse you have an extra one lying around. Power supplies do tend to eventually go out, and I'm guessing that's the original adapter you got with the laptop.
-
I am not convinced it is the charger/battery. Get it to boot up with no screen, turn your sound up, and tell me if you hear the windows "ding" (aka, it's working just no screen). I'm betting it's the graphics card. Do you have an 8800GTX?
-
and bad news is that its not the charger/battery problem (kudos Notabrawd for foresight)
i tested the whole day with the new battery and charger and i got the same problem.
so today im trying to contact the company that sold me the laptop and see what can be done... -
I sent in my sager to the company where i bought it from, they had it for a over a week now.
good news: there was absolutely NO hardware problems
better news: it was all just a damned graphics driver problem. i downloaded
the latest drivers in april and it has been causing problems since then.
solution: just roll back the graphics driver version.
bad news: out of warranty = payment (grrrr...)
anywayz, if anyone has problems similar to mine, try rolling back the last driver update you did... -
I hope you can return Windows 7 you bought.
-
Good news everything is cool with your machine, but I say keep Windows 7. It works great on the NP9262 for me so far!
-
Keep Win7!!!!

Ok im in a similar situation. i have just bought meself a new Corsair SSD and installed win 7 x64. however when i went into bios and set it to AHCI mode and tried to reboot.. the computer just hangs.
i tried to restart and tried to press F2 to get back into bios and it wont go back in again. now im stuck. i cant get back into bios to turn it off. please help.
is there any other solution to reset the CMOS or Bios -
ok all fixed..
-
I believe I am having the exact same problem that you are. What drivers did you use and where did you get them from?
-
ok for graphics drivers i have used 189.75 drivers from laptopvideo2go forums. i think these are the last of the 18X.XX series. i tried the 19X.XX series drivers and all i was getting is BSOD at win 7 x64 startup.
for the problem i had regarding the bios problem. i removed all hardware that is cdrom and all hardrives and started it while pressing F2 so often. after it went into checking AHCI sata bios it went back into bios.
i cant get sata interface to go to AHCI now since win 7 will BSOD everytime. -
You cant install win 7 with controller set to normal then change it to AHCI and expect to windows to be happy.
To get around this you need to enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive.
Try this - Boot up with the controller set to normal.
Exit all Windows-based programs.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
Reboot laptop, set the controller to AHCI and windows will boot & install required drivers then ask you to reboot again.
This only applys if you installed windows with the controller set to normal.
