My XPS is Gone, Sold On ebay, D901C Here I Come!

Well, My xps m1710 is gone. and I have the capitol to buy a fully configured notebook.

Since I live in Canada, I emailed John over at eurocom and asked if he would match the same config over @Xoticpc.

I am going for just basics right now q6600, 8800, i got a 320gb hdd so I can throw that in there.

But Eurocom just seems better because it is located in the same country.

I would totally order from Xotic in a second. but it's so far away and warranties and such...

but. If John shoots me down, which may happen. I will order from Xotic.

then next month I will grab the extra 8800.

do you guys with the single 8800 and d901c know if you get the SLI ribbon cable with the single card?

or do you get it with the second card?

also for the third HDD, do you have to buy bracket for it? over at EUROCOM they have bracket 1,2,3 and prices for them, I hope they aren't selling them individually.

and another weird thing. over @ Xotic, the 2.0 megapixel camera is standard and built in I assume,

over @ eurocom they want 50 bux or so for it. and it's 1.3mp

so if I don't pick it extra, I get a hole in the top on the screen with a missing camera?

I am 110% going to pull the trigger, would have back in the begining but all the mobo swaps came about.

Now the dust have settled I can finally pull the TRIGGER!

Good question about the camera, I also noticed some companies reselling the same M570RU (that I'm talking about), charge extra for the fingerprint reader... and can also sell you the laptop WITHOUT it.. wonder what it looks like then..

 

yup, I think they are making extra off of something that should come standard. like the lcd latches

 

Those do come in standard.

How much did you get on your XPS btw?
Eurocom tends to have a better price for the M570Ru-U, but all other are a bit more expensive, which is a bummer.
I`d say that the 88M GTX will suit all your needs, just don`t OC the crap out of it like you did with your 79GTX

pretty much, I like getting the most out of my card.

I will overclock the 8800 as well.

get as much as I can out of it.

if you read my posts about my overclocking my 7900gtx I managed to get over 30% increase in REAL World Performance.
This was documented in FPS gains.

I added a Geometric Delta shader clock.

funny though. you know what killed it.

VISTA.

I installed vista, and was just moving windows around and I had no fan control or temp monitor. and AERO interface used my clocks to the fullest. and it died.

of all the times in XP I had perfect Fan Controll and kept it at a nice idle of 48 degrees with Powermizer.

 

Ye Gods! Why am I not even mildly surprised? Maybe that's part of the new DRM protection regime (even if only tangentially related to you) - holding computer systems hostage against their owners - monkey with the system and it dies!

Sounds more like heat killed it dex and it was overclocked too high. Even if it worked in XP it could have died just that day if you were using XP. The built in fan control in the bios should have worked. So it sounds more like it died of fried ram. Check that, have read many stories about the ram that gets fried especially on the 7900GTX. Nevertheless I agree that overclocking is the way to go, free performance

 

Well,if you can get the 88M GTX to be on par with the desktop 88 GTX, you`re my hero

 

the reason why vista kileld it is because of the fangui software I had in XP, I had the thermal zones/fans programed to turn on at certain temps. so it kept it very cool at a low idle temp of 48, with normal temp control my card went up to 68-70degrees on idle. so go figure.

that's why i just asked if there is any automatic tailored temp/fan control software for the 9260.

 

eleron the 8800m GTX will never be on par with the desktop 8800GTX how could it be? 96 shaders against 128 shaders, 384 wide Bus against 256 wide bus. Surely the clocks can be the same but not performance wise. Though SLI should surpass the desktop 8800GTX where SLI works as it should.

 

A good OC here and there could get it close to a desktop 88 GTX. I`m fairly confident that Dexgo, as a maniac OCer as he is will do it
