got my clevo a month ago and I think the brightness is really low (too low). In all the reviews I read everyone comments on how bright the screen is but I feel it's at around 60% brightness (maxed) as compared to my last computer (asus g73jh). It's honestly super dim and I'm wondering how to fix it. Also sometimes the screen goes even dimmer, and I have to press alt fn8 to supposedly lower the brightness, except in this case it'll get brighter (I was at max before), and then I"ll press alt fn9 to up the brightness again back to its original still dim display.

    Anyone know what's going on?

have you got it set to high performance and not balanced. mouse click the battery on taskbar to check.
also check power options in control panel as you can set up your own power plan there.

You can change the brightness settings for balanced in the advanced options. For gaming though, I'd just set it to high performance and it should automatically put the brightness to 100%.

i always have mine on high performance.
if you use the lappy on battery out and about then its better on balanced as the battery will last longer.
as mentioned you can change in advanced power options to whatever you want them set to.

I changed it to high performance and I'm still seeing this issue. Is there anyway I can check the screen brightness at all? It's very uncomfortable to watch.

Once you go into change plan settings for high performance, you can press change advanced power settings. You'll find what you're looking for under display.

if your using windows 7 try this. (if windows 8 then i have no idea)
left click battery in taskbar and click adjust screen brightness. at the bottom of that box you can adjust with slider.
then click change plan settings above next to high performance and turn both the sliders up for on battery and plugged in.
if you still have the same problem after that then i would contact your suppliers support and see what they suggest.
it might need to be rma'd back to them to find what the problem is.

it could be a faulty screen then. no idea if the 230st is anything like my 150em but mines on 70% and its way bright enough.
have you contacted your supplier yet?
