I have just sent the following to xoticpc about my "sound issue" that I have asked support for about 2 or 3 times before here. And I thought maybe I'll try once more, and see if anyone new here may have the same issue and would be able to help from experience. So I'm going to just throw this out in the open and have you guys look at and analyze my query. ANYTHING will be appreciated (that is in relation to the topic at hand of course lol).
Thanks
"Hello, I purchased an NP9262 from your site without an operating system. Then I installed it myself. I installed xp sp 2. Here are my specs:
Q6600
8800m GTX (single, not sli)
7200 RPM HDD
And thats all I really need to state for my query. Anyway I've been having real issues with sound lately. Not bad (but skips and slow downs are still existant) when there are only a couple minor programs running (e.g. internet explorer, notepad, etc.) but When Im running microsoft word or AIM or powerpoint at the same time, the sound slows down really slowly and it also skips. Like when I'm listening to music or watching a movie. And these skips and slowdowns don't just apply to software. When windows starts up, the welcome jingle skips like crazy, the "pop" that occurs saying "you are now connected to so-and-so network" is slow, etc. Here are a list of fixes I have tried but haven't worked:
-Tried multithread support hotfix for xp sp 2
-Tried upgrading to sp 3
-Tampered with the utilization of cores and priority in the task manager
-Windows update (including manual hotfixes)
-updated drivers for everything possible (including sound drivers and soundcard drivers)
-tampered with the session manager in the registry (e.g. throttle and perfenableackage)
-used and attempted throttling with the "Windows Native Processor Performance Control" document
I really appreciate your time to read this and I thank you for any support/help you can offer."
Thanks again

what's your sound card
-
So are you on SP3 or still on SP2?
A fresh install of XP +Sp3 added straight after that can do wonders.
As sugested in earlier threads...
-defrag
-look at the network activity, might be a flood
-sound card issues(bad integrated) -> this can be outlooked if the sounds works perfectly in AT LEAST 1 situation
-update direct x files
-update sound card driver
-try an external sound card(CREATIVE USB or Express Card Slot Xi-fi ... -
Can I just recommend to get an ExpressCard X-Fi...
-
... try running Linux (live CD) see if it still has sound issues, if it does it could be a hardware defect...

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Yes,start with what yuio said.
-
i have exactly the same problem with my acer before, just simply re-install the windows fix my problem.
hope it will work...
^^ -
Yes, an expressbay card and freshinstall would be high on my list of things I should do but haven't done. I've never done a clean install before, because I don't want to lose my data. And I'm out of DVD-R's lol. Isn't there a hidden back-up utility somewhere? I remember hearing about it somewhere...
-
BTW you guys are awesome. I can always rely on quick and speedy responses here. Man I love you guys
lol
Anyway I have done a defrag (including boot files/system files) and a lot of what you all recommended already. But I have NOT updated directx, which is downloading right now. I will do a clean install, but not until I get some dvd-r's or rw's. And yes I am still using sp 3, which means I will not be able to reinstall sp 2, am I correct?
Thx -
Here, in case you need one
I'm sorry nothing we've thrown at the problem's worked so far (I suppose that means some of us - me, fer instance- will have to try and think about it). It's a pretty desperate measure, but right about now, a good clean reinstall sounds like a good idea - even if it doesn't fix the problem, it should put us back to a known starting point so we can try and diagnose this little gremlin you've been "blessed" with.
-
Alright, I guess this is my mission. Thx. Will be back with results.
P.S. Updating directx didn't work : (.
Thx,

u should re-install the windows. my acer have the same stuttering problem.
im sure it will work for u too...
i guess... ;p -
ideas.
-
If it has an infrared port, try disabling it in the BIOS.
-
-
(actually, just kidding on that last one)
-
How do I do this through windows?
-
i think u can disable the infrared monitor service from Computer Management>Services
your infrared , doesnt relate to the stutterig problem...
it's a clean install of windows, what u should do
yoda style... lol -
The same goes for your wireless card - if you're not currently using it to connect to a wireless network, disable it in the control panel; otherwise, it's constantly polling for networks to connect to, and network connections take up a lot of cpu time when they interrupt. -
it's a longshot, but try disabling your microphone/s.
-
And further more, try disablind your LCD, your GPU and your CPU.
Might fix everything
+1 for fresh install, and UPDATE to the latest SERVICE PACK(3 for XP or 1for Vista).
BTW, I DO recommend Vista -
disabling the inrared and wi-fi, no go. And I have updated to sp 3. Tried mic too. I'm on a trip right now and my xp disc is at mi casa so in about 3-4 days I'll be trying a reinstall of the OS. And if that fails, clean install.
P.S. Thx for your guys' help thus far.
My last thread about this issue, I promise : )
